It's early, and the schedule has been relatively easy, except for Miami. Nevertheless, here's a quick look at some interesting stats:

  • Suns 3rd in offensive rebounds per game at 15.0 per, 6th in overall rebounds
  • Suns 1st in blocks per game at 9.0 per (half of that is Gortat)

  • Suns 2nd worst in points allowed at 105 per game and 4th worst in points differential at -7.6 (due to two double-digit losses)
  • Suns worst in 3-pt fg% allowed (48.3%!), worst in 3-pt fg% differential (-18%) and 3rd worst in 3-pt made differential (-2.6)
  • Suns 4th worst in assist differential (-4.6)

  • Suns leading scorer: Scola (15.2 ppg)
  • Suns with five players averaging double digits (Scola, Gortat, Beasley, Dragic, Brown)
  • Gortat leading the league in blocks per game (4.2)
  • Beasley shooting career low (by good margin) from the floor (35.9%) and 3-pt line (28.6%) while attempting almost twice as many 3-pointers (4.2 per game) as previous career high (2.2 in 2010/11)
  • Dragic averaging career high assists (8.6 per game, 6th in NBA) on par with last year's average as starter (8.4)

Suns play better defense early in games then look lethargic in the 3rd and 4th quarters on defense. Consistent effort is what is missing on the defensive end.

That would infer conditioning, which is the responsibility of the coaches.

The lack of a go to scorer is the biggest issue with this team. When they hit a drought like in the orlando game they have no one to stop the bleeding.

It's slightly more problematic than that in that most of our looks now are perimeter 'low percentage' shots. It's not particularly unique to this year's iteration of the team but Nash was a little bit better at hitting the roll man for attacks at the rim.

The offense now seems to consist of a large number of contested mid and long range jumpshots with most of them being semi-contested at best.

Granted, this is based solely on watching 2.5 games and at stats so maybe i'm just extrapolating too much.
