if hes in camp on time this kid will vie for def rookie of the year. although asu is my fav college team fsu is #2 and i have seen most of the games this kid played in. as im sure many of you already know he is a freaking monster, i cant recall a def tackle that gets in the backfield as often as this guy its amazing. lets hope he keeps his head on straight when things dont go his way. if he does the cards might have another swann on their hands with a better motor and more heart.

Are you questioning Swanns heart? Its sounds like you are, comparing him to some rookie from a football factory.

Swann pulled himself up by his bootstraps man. In the end, his knees were fried, and he couldn't go, even though he still wanted to.

Get more than 10 posts before you come on here questioning the heart and motor of one of the more interesting stories in NFL history, and probably the most dominate cardinal DT in franchise history.

Thanks in advance.

I must agree. Swann was a boheamath, by far the most dominant DT in Cards history. If he had not played for a mediocre team he could have been one of the most dominant in NFL history. Dockett intrigues me but lets see what he shows. I don't think he compares to Swann in the strength department, but he is quicker than Swann. This will be interesting.

Wow that was an aggressive verbal beating.

I look at it this way, at least he knows who Eric Swann is.
Outside our proud Cardinal society, few do, and because of the
team's "rich winning history" few would even care to
hear the tale of the mountain we called a man.

Or something.

I have his jersey!
Who-ray!

Swann's last few seasons, 90% of Cardinals fans accused him of having no heart. It's not like burndoggy came completely out of left field with that.

Ok. But I'm saying that we know now, and so should burndoggy if hes going to talk about it, that Swann was doing the best he could on bad knees.

Actually, we don't all kow-tow to that notion. Eventually, that stupid microfracture knee surgery got him but Swann had quit making much of an effort long before that.

Some peoples memory regarding Swann is jaded IMO.

The guy gave it all he could. He is the best DL this team has ever seen and possibly ever will. I would like to see the people that slam him do what he did on severly arthritic knees.

Dockett will not ever achieve the dominance that you could see from Swann at times.

Is it too much to ask for and expect competence at DT from Dockett before we start putting him up on a pedastal of excellence and comparing him to Swann?

Alot of people felt like Bryant was going to be a monster as well and look how that has turned out. Let's just get the kid signed and see if he can actually make the HUGE leap to NFL football.

I don't know of many people who had heard of Wendell untill the Cards made him a #1 pick. Much less be a monster DT. I do expect mush more out of Dockett.

Swann was one of the best to play his position. Teams had to double andf triple team him. That's what made him so great. His passion for the game is he never quit when rejected for college he kept on pushing playing for squat with a semi pro team. No college back ground yet when he came on the field people and players looked up.

On top of being a great player he was and remains a good guy. A good family man and team mate. You never here anything negative from him. I remember in 98 when we were in Dallas and he was walking with crutches he stayed with the team. I spoke with him in Dallas the day before we ripped them up in the playoffs and heard the disappointment in himthat he could not make a go of it. He wanted so much to play. Everything for him and us went down from the great day in 98. Contracts not renewed or reworked, Centers, Brown and Jamir let go. But the biggest hit and they all were large was that Swanny could not make magic anymore.

I hope Dockett can do 80% as well that would bew great , npow if he can do as well or better, we will have a shot at the big prize.

Wasn't he supposed to be one of the 4 monster DT's of the draft.

MJ was discussing this and stated that Wendell would have most probably taken top 15 and at least top 20.

Depending on who was ranking the players, Bryant was either 3rd or 4th rated Dt in his draft (he was 3rd DT taken). There were some questions about him coming out of college but most were very high on him and I would bet there is thread floating around with the majority of posts expecting Bryant to be huge on the DL.

He was hardly an unknown player.

Again, let's get Dockett signed and see if he can even play at this level before we annoint him the next Swann...or better than Swann.

Are we talking about the same Swann?

The one who fired his agent and tried to renegatiate his contract after one year?
The one who sat out a game with a sprained thumb?
The dufus who got kicked out of a Dallas game for kicking a player?
The dufus who get kicked out of a game against Philly for fighting?
The free lancer who ignored his assignment and left open the hole for Adrian Murrell of the Jets to go on a long TD run against us for the Jets' nly win bthat year under Rich Kotite?
The player who left his best games in preseason?
The player who didn't tell his team he was having microfracture surgery?

That Swann?

Yea, that's the guy...

It is interesting to see how a few years changes the perceptions. Now, some think that Swann is a candidate for the Cardinals to retire his Jersey...I still remember the guy taking plays off and mentoring Mark Smith on attitude.

You act like Swann was NOTHING but problems and disappointments for the Cards and that doesn't paint an accurate picture either. The truth lies in between. He was a dominant DT whop did take plays off from time to time and had other issues. All in all though, until the end fiasco, very few Cards fans wanted to get rid of the guy...for good reason.

Swann did loaf his last few years, this is well known with many, including his teamates of '98. I remember everyone voicing concern when wadsworth shows up and latches on to him. Nobody is questioning his talent, the guy had boat loads. Talent-wise, he probably was one of the best the team has ever seen. But he wasnt a team player, maybe a product from not attending college and playing (i think is universally known college guys play with more heart), but he coulda been a lot better. Maybe his knees did give out, ????? who knows, anyone on here a good friend of his?

Jamir Miller blasted him for being a light foot and sand baggin, as Jamir broke his arm in wk 3 and played the rest (very impressively i might add) with a cast. Say what you want about the coke head :) but he played with heart and was calling out the prima donna. Sorry guys, I have to read between the lines on that one.

This guy obviously is a big FSU/Dockett fan, and he is trying to poor us some more kool-aid that everyone is constantly drunk on around here anyway- I hope he does have more heart than Swann, and I hope he is every bit as nasty as everyone says.

Monday cant get here soon enough....

Let me get this correct...

i) If you have a large number behind your post count than your opinion counts;

ii) If you have a small number behind your post count than your opinion does not count...

...on that theory...I should just post crap just to increase my post count...internet politics...IMHO...LAME!

An opinion is just that and the number of posts should have nothing to do with it. One person with a view and another that seemed to ponce on that view.

PS I just added another crap post so my post count just went up

The guy shouldn't have been jumped on. He's a Dockett fan and I agreed with his take on Swann. But vey few of the more prolific posters ever jump on the new people. I wouldn't stand for it.

Relax, KAZ, or I'll add 10,000 to your post count.
