No. 1 Tennessee (20-1, 3-0 SEC) suffered its first loss during the 2025 baseball season. East Tennessee State (16-4) defeated the top-ranked Vols, 7-6, Tuesday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. 6,331 were in attendance.
Tennessee was one game shy of tying a program record for consecutive wins. The Vols entered Tuesday's contest with a 22-game win streak, dating to the final two games in 2024. Tennessee won 23 straight games from March 5-April 10, 2022 for a program record.
Tennessee also debuted its classic uniforms against the Buccaneers. Photos of the Vols' new uniforms can be viewed here.
The Vols now lead the all time baseball series against East Tennessee State, 70-21, dating to April 25, 1967. Tony Vitello is 6-4 against ETSU as the Vols' head coach.
Tennessee will next play at Alabama for its second SEC series in 2025. The Crimson Tide will host Tennessee, Thursday-Saturday, at Sewell–Thomas Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
