James may be ready for camp

Cardinals running back Edgerrin James underwent minor knee surgery this off-season and might be limited in the team's voluntary camp this weekend, coach Ken Whisenhunt said Wednesday.

Details of the surgery were not available. James had some swelling in the knee after the season, and his rehabilitation is progressing normally, Whisenhunt said. The coach has received regular reports on James' injury this off-season and said he had no reason to think James wouldn't participate this weekend.

But Whisenhunt hasn't seen James, who has been rehabbing at home in Florida, so the coach was hesitant to be definitive about James' plans for the weekend. The minicamp, which runs from Friday through Sunday, is voluntary.

Am I completely out of the loop? Did anyone else know this?

What were they titled? I didnt see any with Edge in the title.. And if the title has to do with a 3-4 or 4-3 defense I didnt open it.. That subject has been beat to death for me..

Yeah, it was buried in some other threads, not part of the title.

So back on topic, I love how all these little secret surgeries come out of the blue.

Would draining fluid from the knee be considered "minor knee surgery?"

I'm curious as to what that is.

I also wonder about Leinart's shoulder, given that nothing has been said since the season ended, iirc.

Both James and Leinart will be fine and ready to go; barring any additional injuries while practicing.

I'm going to disappoint abomb, because I don't have a good, definitive answer.

It could be one of two things, I think. It could be that they put him on a table and opened him up to relieve pressure and drain fluid. That seems pretty drastic to me since they can scope knees and get just about anywhere with those things...why not just (for lack of a better term) jam a straw in there and suck it out? But, they are saying things like "he's recovering from minor surgery" so maybe they did cut him.

They had a tube in my knee for a few days after surgery so fluid (blood and swelling-fluid stuff, mostly) could drain off. It drained into a bulb that I had to empty every 6 or 8 hours or so. Pretty gross, but it didn't hurt (at least, not relative to the surgery recovery).

Leinart was on the radio this morning saying that he's been throwing and feeling pretty good.

Along with all of the line changes, I hear the Cardinals are asking Leinart to switch to a right-handed delivery so it shouldn't matter.

Matt was on MJ and Bickley this morning and he stated that his shoulder is fine and has been throwing for weeks now. He will be fine for this coming mini camp. He in fact has been at the training facility every day since it opened and has been working Lotts program to get bigger and put on some more LBs from day one. He has been lifting with his shoulder.

But he did bring up that everyone on the team is really sore right now because no one is used to actually lifting like they used to in college since they have been a Card.

I just can't imagine a pro sports franchise being so shoddy in the conditioning department, this is one area of the offseason that I give the Cardinals major kudos. Porper weight training and conditioning should reduce the amount of injuries this season. I have complete faith in Mr Lott.

On the other hand, these guys are pro athletes, they should know how to train and LIKE doing it. I wonder if any of them had complained in previous years about the facilities and got no response. I am by no means at the level of these athletes but I like training, I enjoy it and I pay to use a facility and don't improve my job performance and thereby get paid more by my employer.

Its great to hear how many players are participating and I can only hope it pays off on the field.

Oddly enough last year we were one of the healthiest teams in the league.

Remember that year we came out like 4-2 and ended 4-12? think that was plummers last year, EVERYONE got injured. I was working at circle k at the time and my daughter was 2 so it was 3 years ago. Must have been 2004? or 2005.

That was 2002 when the Cards got to 4-2 with a 9-6 win over Dallas. The Cardinals had 11 different guys catch at least 10 passes that year and 17 catch at least one. That year saw the second of two 1-9 stretches with McGinnis in charge.

2005 was the year the Cards led the league in number of guys on IR.

How many centers did we go through in '05 .. ?? we were playing our 4th and 5th string guys off the wire ... that was really weird having so many injuries at one position ...

And Cleveland, John Lott's former team, was one of the most injured teams in the league That was the main reason he was let go.I don't think it was his fault and that injuries are cyclical but he was seemingly made a scapegoat for the problems.

I was just imagining the posts three years from now where people would be blaming the strenuous conditioning program for the players wearing down during the latter part of the season. And how glad everyone was that the new coach got rid of the rigorous weight training.

Edgerrin James underwent a minor "clean-up" knee surgery following his disappointing 2007 season.

The procedure drained fluid from Edge's knee and could limit him in the Cardinals' upcoming minicamp. James was never on the injury report last season, but this is still a situation to monitor. The new staff in Arizona has called finding another back to take the load off Edge "critical."

Gee and abomb, both Edge and Leinart had surgeries and nobody told us anything. My guess is that the front office knew nothing about either until after the surgeries. That really sucks.
