I'll be the first to admit that I was wrong about starting Hightower. He might turn into a real every-down back, but he is not that guy right now. Of course, Edge isn't an every-down back either, but put him in there on 1st and 2nd down. He's clearly the better back right now, and Hightower is clearly better used as he was earlier in the season. Edge gives us our best shot at a run game in the playoffs. I firmly believe that now.

He will, he's fresh and has something to prove. A few weeks off does wonders...too bad the rest of the team has been taking off too lol

He is running with a purpose and we need to ride the hot hand....or the hot legs in this case

It was very good to see edge have a good game today. We need him to start against the falcons. Because he has playoff experience and he his the best back we have hopefully this win will give us some momentum going into the playoffs.

Right on! The runs should go to Edge and Arrington.

He will!! What a time to get a hundred. At least Atlanta will have to spend some time now on preparing for something other than just getting to Warner.

Agreed. Edge needs to start and once again, JJ Arrington had an impressive YPC and YPR average. Arrington should clearly be 2nd on the depth chart and the 3rd down back. Hightower is a power, short yardage back you bring in when you really need 2 yards.

I stated that in the chat room too. If we start running ball early and well, ATL won't know what the hell to do.

Might be the week to do it as well. ATL's run defense is just as bad as STL's run defense both allowing 5 yards a pop.

Thanks for stating the obvious. I'll give Ken Whisenhunt credit for playing Edge a lot today to get him ready for the playoffs. And I give Edgerrin James credit for being the consummate professional and going out and doing his job to the max.

Gotta admit I was very frustrated with the offense (and defense) in the first half. But they must have responded to whatever Whis said at halftime because they turned it around in the second half.

Nashman was right.

Edge needs to be the starter next week or Wiz is a buffoon of epic proportions.

Thanks Cheese, its just too bad it took Whiz 8 weeks of poor results to actually make the change geesh. Glad to see we can still have a semblance of a running attack wonder how many games this team could have won without the midseason shake up. Whatever OFF to the playoffs lets take care of the first game and see what happens!

We were a success today because we:

Stuck with the running game.
Showed more run formations.
Most runs were designed downfield, which opened up our play action.

The best play that showed that was a play action to Edge and a pass to Ben Patrick to the left. I replayed it in slow motion. Seattle's LB took 1 step fprward on the fake and tried to get back into coverage. Warner had just enough room to drop it in to Patrick for about a 10 yard gain. Without the fake that LB would have easily been in position to break up the pass , pick it off, or force Warner to go elsewhere.

Edge ran like a man posessed today. I was never so happy to see 4, 5, and 8 yard runs in my whole life.
I will be SHOCKED if Edge doesn't play the same role vs the Falcons.

Don't forget about the 35 yarder slanidrac16, he just proved give him a little room to run and he still can! This offensive line is just bad, but TH was not ready and is not the answer thats all I have been saying for months. Glad to see some coming around, I just didn't get what people were seeing in TH.

Yeah, it was rediculous that Whiz took this long to recognize what many of us saw weeks ago. At least he realized it before the playoffs. We got a chance now where we didn't the way things were going. Sadly, it really wasn't that hard to diagnose the problem, and none of us (I think) are paid NFL coaches.

^Exactly it's just worriesome that our coach would make a dumb decision like that and then to compound it by letting him sit for 8 weeks and many losses later to admit he was wrong and then start Edge.

I have said recently that no matter who the back was ,we were not going to be successful running the ball without changing our offensive mindset. I saw a difference today. Many more run formations and we somewhat stuck with a commitment to run the ball.
I still say we should NEVER be in shotgun when we are 2nd and 2 or 3. There isn't a pass play we can't call just because we are under center. However, in the shotgun there is only 1 running option and we all know what that is.

Watching a veteran running back like Edge is kinda cool. He runs under control where Hightower looks to be hyper-ventilating when he is running. TH will be okay, but it's playoff time now and there is nothing like experience.

I called this...Edge will start in the playoffs...fresh, veteran legs. He's hungry now too.

Great game by edge and the crowd was all behind him. So great to hear us all cheering him on.

sad that edge didnt run like this all year. he wasnt just puttin his head down and ducking from a collision. he was running into, through, and around people. if the last couple weeks of bad play was while keeping edge fresh for THIS then it was all too perfect. edge could give us a real run in teh playoffs.
