Even if we get McFadden (or another big-name back) I think we should keep him at least one more season.

Keep him... When he gets his share he is productive. He had two 20+ carries yesterday IIRC. I think Feneca or another Top tier guard will do wonders for the O line.

McFadden will be long gone by the time we pick... However, I was thinking the same thing in that, it would be great to have a veteran like Edge even if we landed a bigtime back... But I question how Edge will deal with having to split time with someone else...
Remember, he complained like mad his first year here as he thought he was not used enough... This year, he was used extensively and IMO, produced no more than he had the year before...

It's obviously up to Whis either way (or more appropriately, up to Rod Graves/Mike Bidwill), but if I had my druthers, we'd save the same amount of money by cutting Marcel Shipp.

I think there were just to many 1 and 2 yard runs that kept Whiz question the run game. If those became a rarity then Edge would get more carries. I'm not talking about a whole lot more either. Just make the overall average 4.0-4.2 and I think we are good.

IIRC the context of his complaints weren't just about not getting the ball. At the end of the games he wasn't being allowed to help us win. That year we did nothing but throw, he wanted to run out the clock to seal the games. James is a team player and wants to win first and foremost.

I voted we keep James no matter what. Even if by some miracle we traded up and landed McFadden I'd want to keep him. With the exception of speed, Edge is among the best at pretty much everything a running back does. He's durable, which means he knows how to take care of his body and get the most out of every carry without getting abused too much. He's a great pass blocker and is also one of the better pass catching backs in the league. These are all traits I would want a rookie RB to learn. If we draft someone I don't want a rookie being in charge of protecting Leinart/Warner from a blitzing LB or S. If we cut Edge we'd also be 1 injury away from Shipp or Arrington starting.

I totally agree with you, but I think that a lot of those were the fault of the OL, not James. Just yesterday, there was a run behind the LT that was totally stuffed, seemingly for a loss of 2 or 3. Instead, after running up the back of Gandy, James backed up and popped out of the right side of the line for a gain of 2. It went down in the books as a 2 yard gain, but it really was a 5 yard pickup.

Also - I bet the Jags are pretty glad that they hung on to fragile Freddie Taylor even after they hit a gold mine with Jones-Drew. You don't throw away productive backs in the NFL. James could gain 1800 yards in Denver.

Good point about the Jags and Fragile.

I voted keep him no matter what.

1.5 in cap savings is not nearly enough to let him go. Even with a RB to replace him.

2 RB's in this league is becoming increasingly more important and the thing to do in the NFL.

There is no comparison between Taylor and Edge... Two totally different backs... Taylor can still break runs for 60 & 70 yards. Edge can't. And Edge would most certainly not gain 1800 with Denver. More then here for sure, but 1,800? LMAO!

I like Edge. He's tough as a junk yard dog, doesn't fumble, plays hard, picks up blitzes. I know he's lost a step and a guy like Brian Westbrook would help us more, but we don't have Westbrook. Keep him

PS. JJ aint Westbrook

I like that people seem to think that the best RB the team has had in ages (decades?) is tossed out like so much Fonzie, it means there's enough confidence in what is going on with the team as a whole, but the Cardinals still need Edge as much as they need a home run hitter. RB Duos work and there's no reason they shouldn't have the space on the roster for 2 good backs.

You don't ditch productive backs in the NFL. Try to upgrade the position? Absolutely..but no two steps backward for one step forward.

Totally agree with keep no matter what. How many years have waited for a RB to give us what Edge has.

Keep him he did better then what a lot of rbs could do behind this oline that is for sure. Would be nice to trade or draft for a back that can do some dmg while we rest james for a few plays though
