I know alot of us, myself included, were not fans of the Cards signing him. Of course he's had previous brushes with the law so the Cards would never look at a guy like that :sarcasm:.

Maybe the Cards FO isn't as stupid as some on here think.
I don't know about that. If he didn't get into that altercation, or supposed altercation in Detroit, the Cards were rumored to be signing him to a 5 year deal .

That rumor was put out by Edwards agent. Leverage is everything.

The sad part is this not working out didn't phase the Niners at all. They still walked away with the division.

Are you kidding? Did you not hear/read the numerous rumors regarding Edwards imminent signing with the Cards. They would have signed him had that fight not occurred. This was not agent generated at all.

I'll provide some of the many links. Here's one from Kerry Rhodes:

This link references Darren Urban:

This one references Somers:

So the rumor was put out by Edwards agent or Edwards himself. What's the difference?

Weren't you one of the guys giving Graves grief for not getting Edwards signed? It's obvious the Cards did the right thing by not hiring this guy, but you can't allow yourself to give some credit to the FO for doing the right thing.

I wouldn't go there... there is a much longer list of bust FA players we brought in, FA we lost that should have been signed, and draft busts

No more so than any other NFL team. At least not in the past 4 or 5 years.

The only thing Edwards does more than dropping passes is getting arrested. Even just on the football side of things I didnt like the idea of signing him.

No, I never wanted Edwards and thought he'd be a bad signing. I wanted the Cards to sign James Jones from GB.

The "rumor" was all but confirmed by Cardinal sources. How do you not see that? If that fight didn't break out, and thankfully it did, he would have been a Cardinal

And where did the Cardinal sources get the rumor from? Certainly not from the Cards FO. They don't give out that kind of info. It's just supposition on your part.

I believe the FO considered giving him a contract, but decided not to based on his past experience and how they thought he would fit in with the current players and I believe this decision was made before he got into the fight.

IIRC there were tweets coming from Larry's brother about a big signing. Then came the tweets from Kerry Rhodes. I thought he actually turned down an offer from the cards and took the one year deal hoping to make the big splash next year. I could be wrong on that one, but my old mind says I remember reading that. :maninground:

The question is where could Larry's brother or Kerry Rhodes get that information? It certainly wasn't from the FO. It had to come from someone connected with the Edwards camp. I certainly wouldn't pin much confidence on their reports.

Who knows for sure, but i would guess that players talk. They know who is coming to town for a look-see. And you could be right it could be agent talk. We just don't know for sure. But Fitz did seem to know something about KK coming to town.

My whole argument is that the Cards FO did something right for a change by not signing him and some people just can't bring themselves to admit that. If we are going to hang every little mistake on them, we should also give them an "attaboy" when they make the right call.

That would be a change from the way Graves operates. He's always been honest with the media. Somers and especially Urban, the mouthpiece of the Cards, aren't going to fuel the rumor if there are no legs to it. In fact they are usually quick to squelch such rumors. Now, if it was Jurecki spreading the rumor, then you may have a better case in that the agent was putting it out there.

According to this past thread, Juercki also put it out there but it was also confirmed by many, including Urban.

Did you notice everyone on there was referring back to Juercki?

We can argue this until we are blue in the face. There is no way to prove it one way or the other. It is supposition on everyone's part. I just know that the Cards FO is tighter than a miser when it comes to giving out information during contract negotiations. They are the only ones who can really answer this question.

Why is it so hard for you to admit that the FO did something right for a change in not signing him, especially considering the amount of heat generated on this very board when Edwards didn't sign here?

Did you notice I referenced Jurecki in the post you quoted .

I give the FO praise all the time when I think they deserve it. Not just blindly like you seem to. I gave them credit for Kolb, Colledge, King, and Heap (even though he was pretty much a bust) and drafting PP and Acho.

I didn't want them to sign Edwards and am glad they didn't. However, all signs pointed them to signing him, at least very interested in signing him, had the altercation not occurred.

@whiteygleason Braylon Edwards could get a look in New York. They need somebody at Times Square to drop the ball on New Year's Eve.

We need to take another look at him. We desperately need WR help. Aside from Larry, I dont think our entire WR corps would make another NFL team. Tho I do like Early, great slot guy.

Braylon is 6'3, 214, runs a 4.38. I dont care if this dude stole a space shuttel and tweeted about it, we need that kind of talent. WHEN he applies himself, hes a monster. He needs a solid team. Cards have a very strong locker room and who better than Fitz to look after him?

We literally have nothing to lose and potentially ALOT to gain.
