no way! a Phoenix news guy said there was biased officiating?! HOLY COW! STOP THE PRESSES!

Good lord, please, please, please, don't let the Suns and their collective fans become as pathetic as Dallas or Sacto fans.

did you miss the smiley? the funnier part was that everyone interviewed agreed with him, even D'Antoni who didn't want to talk about it basically admitted he thought the officiating was crap.

There were basically two calls that swung the game. Amare's "foul" on Duncan in the first half, and then Barbosa getting called before the play against Bowen. If Amare had stayed out of foul trouble, he would have been able to stay on Duncan, doing a very good job, instead of watching Duncan destroy Marion and Diaw. It also was a two shot foul instead of a Suns fast break. The problem with the Barbosa foul is obvious.

There were basically three huge swing moments, and if just one of them had gone the Suns way they probably would have won the game. The other one, of course, is the Nash bloody nose.

The officiating didn't lose this game for us--our defensive game plan in the 1st half did.

and second - Marion and Diaw on DUNCAN? What was DA thinking? Why the hell did we even trade for KT in the first place? 12 minutes? Most of them when Duncan was ON THE BENCH?!

DA is OWNED by Pop. It's that simple.

Yeah, the Nash bloody nose really hurt us, taking away any sort of momentum we might have gained.

if DA's saying this, I consider the game already lost. He's a freaking priss.

I never complain about calls, but the point DA was making and I agree, is that Amare foul really changed the course of the game. Not saying we would have won without it, but they go into the 3rd having to take amare off duncan, and put marion/diaw on him for a while, and that is where SA took control of the game.

Now DA could have negated all this if he pulled his head out of his ass, and put kurt in for jj (i made that point in the game thread right as the third started, what we cant take out jj's great offense?). Seriously, watching those opening minutes of the third just pissed me off because of DA's idiocy.

BTW, DA actually went out of his way not to say the officiating cost us the game, more the reporters trying to get him to say it.

You're crazy if you think that was an intentional move by Parker. It was an unfortunate play, that's it.

Just watch it over and over again, when you watch tony parkers look on his face and reaction, he is one of the fastest in the league and he lowers his forhead into the nose of nash a second after nash lowers his head to go for the steal.

Than tony falls down like he got shot, when in fact it is just a bump on the forhead. I have gotten some nasty bumps to the forhead myself it stings really bad but it never knocks you down because it is your freakin forhead...

Parker totally went forward and initiated the head bump, but I don't think it was intentional at all.

I've never touted DA as a premium bench coach, but I've long felt he was being overly criticized for being smart enough to give Nash free reign. However, I'm beginning to really buy into the above statement. He spent more time today complaining about calls (needlessly ... flaunting for technicals is not persuasive) than he did coaching the team. It's BS, and he needs to get his head in the game or the Suns will always be at a mental disadvantage against this team.

Joey Crawford is indeed having an impact on this series

I hope D'Antoni send the tapes into the league for review. That was one of the most lopsided officiating jobs ive ever seen

There was only one or two really bad calls in this game. You can't blame it on the refs the Spurs were called for more fouls than the Suns (25 to 24). To say that Joey Crawford has an impact after one game is laughable.

Amen. That third foul on Amare Stoudemire was just a horrible call, and it did affect the game. However I thought Amare could have been flagged for several other calls around that same time period. Certainly a little later in the game he should have been called for the moving picky he said on Bruce Bowen.

is this board really going the way of Kings/Mavs fans? It's incredibly dissappointing.

Amen again. I was embarrassed by people in the chat room at the end of the game. There were bad calls on both ends of the floor all night long. I know some people are not going to like this, but I was tempted to delete these posts about Tony Parker intentionally headbutting Steve Nash. Those are really embarrassing IMO.

I thought the call against Barbosa at the end was bad after I saw the replay, but it was easy to understand why it was called. Barbosa was playing far too physical with Tony Parker even though to be fair Parker was initiating a lot of the contact. That's just a tough call and it's completely understandable.

The only two calls I remember thinking were really bad were that third foul on Amare Stoudemire and when Barbosa got hammered going to the basket towards the end of the game. I also remember saying several times that we were lucky to get away with some call/no calls. Specifically I remember where I thought Amare he fouled somebody on defense and there was something on the other and that went our way as well.

I hope none of you are suggesting that there is some overall conspiracy to get San Antonio to the next level. I remember a few years ago that a lot of people including myself at times suspected that the referees favored the Lakers because they want a back huge market to advance in the playoffs/finals. However if there was such a conspiracy today it would certainly favor the Phoenix Suns.

The crew that did our game had a reputation of letting teams play, which really plays right into the Spurs' hands. It's just a style of officiating that San Antonio are masters of manipulating. A crew that lets a physical game go is bad for us--that's not to say there were bad calls all around, it just means that we needed to compensate for the crew and for the most part we didn't, since we lost, but we weren't outplayed by no means, since the game was still up for grabs with a minute remaining.

Again, stop blaming the officiating! Our first half defense killed us, especially on Tony Parker. Second half we were great, but the first half was a hump we just couldn't get over.

I agree with the notion that complaining about officiating is a sophomoric reaction to having lost a game in which a team simply underperformed and are looking to point the finger anywhere but at themselves. I don’t want to see the Phoenix Suns organization embrace that strategy in public, although, they need to work on the officials as much as the other guy before, during, and after the game.

HOWEVER, why is it this board has so many members that are “HOLIER THAN THOU” in relation to the fans expressing their frustration? If someone wants to complain about officiating, just let them. It doesn’t do any harm.

Do I think the refs screwed us? No. I think Popp is a far superior coach to D'Antoni. FAR SUPERIOR in just about every way. Included in that is his ability to work the officiating to his favor in key situations. They have bread an atmosphere of complaining without getting technicals. That effort is lead by Popp... and I admire it. It certainly isn't the 'high road', but it is effective.

I actually think the second half d is what killed us - to begin the second half, we gave up 9/10 FGs - we built ourselves a big hole against a great team and couldn't get over the hump. It was DA's matchup nightmares putting Marion on two guys, neither of which he can guard and then when that didn't work, he put ANOTHER guy (Diaw) who couldn't guard Duncan. That was the problem as far as I saw it. DA just being a complete and utter stubborn fool, not admitting that KT needed to be in there to play Duncan. Parker ALWAYS kills us, but the only time we've beaten the Spurs the last two years is when KT played solid minites against Duncan and made him work.

I will stick to my guns and say that the reason we lost this game is because of our first half defense on Tony Parker. There were a lot of little things that contributed, but that is my #1.

okayand I'll stickto my guns and say it was DA's continually ******** use of Marion on players he can't guard which killed us (Parker in the first and Duncan to start the second). I mean, Chap we WERE up at the half so whatever we were doing was good enough to have us winning even though we weren't playing all that well. Hell, I think SA's shooting percentage went from 46% at halftime to 50% at the end of the game. Parker's gonna get his, but when we had to give up layups and dunks to Duncan, and bring guys to double, which left Horry and Bowen open for threes, THAT'S where the game got away from us. All that happened in the third quarter.

Sorry, cheese, if we had played better defense in the 1st half on Parker, we would have been up by more than 2 at the break. Plus, add to that the idea that playing better defense on him would cause him to have some shaky confidence issues, and it's all a domino effect. You saw how many points he had, right? We don't let Tony Parker have his way, both shooting and passing, and we go up 1-0 in the series.

If the refs are as good as they were today for the rest of the series, then I'd give a huge thumbs up to the refs...the only problem is that history shows that SanAntonio will probably get more calls once they're on their home court. Hence, the complaining about today's refs.

Damn great game imo, unfortunately the wrong team won.

oh, one thing here that I REALLY disagree with - we can possibly do something that would make Parker have "some shaky confidence issues"? Not this team, no way no how. That's what I think is wrong with your premise. The guy LOVES playing against us. LOVES IT. Did you see his interviews?
