From the San Antonio paper:

http://news.mysanantonio.com/story.cfm?xla=saen&xlb=200&xlc=1132269

The Spurs had discussions with several teams concerning Rose. Detroit's acquisition of Rasheed Wallace in a three-team trade with Atlanta and Boston erased one scenario that could have seen Rose go to the Celtics.

The Spurs also could have swapped Rose for Phoenix point guard Howard Eisley, but didn't want to trade big for small without getting significant salary-cap relief.

According to hoopshype, Rose makes about $1m/yr less than Eisley, but he has two extra years on his contract...I guess the Suns and Spurs agree that Rose is more tradeable, though. ;)

Damn, I would have actually liked to have Rose on this team. He always seems to give the Suns fits.

OK, if we were going to trade some picks for a player, Rose could play center in small lineups and get us a lot of boards. The only problem with Rose is he is a legitimate PF. So to play him significant minutes at his natural spot, we would have to sit Amare and that ain't happening!

Rose is about 6'6.

I am not sure this would have helped us. Eisley will become very tradeable after next season.

He might be tradeable in some sort of bigger trade this offseason already if a team wants a tutor for a rookie PG as Eisley has only 2 years on his contract and is probably regarded as a good veteran to have around for your young guys because of his Jazz history. :D

Malik's productivity is way down this season due to fewer mintues: 24.5 minutes to 17. His ppg is down from 10.4 to 7.0, his shooting percentage went from 45.9% to 39.1%, his rebounding dropped from 6.4 rpg to 4.5 rpg.

At 30 years old, only 6'7" and with four more years on his contract; he may be overpriced.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Malik is not the only player on the Spurs whose shooting percentage has dropped. Last year the Spurs shot 46.2% (opponents had 42.7%) - a difference of 3.5%. This year they as shooting 43.3% but holding their opponents to 40.2% - a difference of 3.1%.

BTW, The Suns are shooting 44.0% but their opponents are shooting 44.5%.

I've really got to assume that this was not a straight swap where Rose would have ended up in Phoenix. I think in this paper that they have mentioned a couple possible trades that were actually one. Howard Eisley goes to San Antonio, Rose goes to Boston, expiring contracts go to Phoenix, and Phoenix Suns draft picks go somewhere else.
