El Pasoan's Laneah Bryan and Ariel Blair have been named to the initial roster for USA Football's U.S. Women's Flag Football National Team.

Bryan and Blair are both receivers and defensive backs.

Bryan has won gold medals in each of the past two years with the U.S. National Team, and Blair is a former UTEP softball player.

With flag football's 2028 Olympic debut drawing closer, many of the selected athletes competing this year could be in the mix when the Olympic teams are chosen in a few years.

"I've been fortunate to play this sport at a high level and to get another chance to continue competing means a lot to me," Bryan said. "There is a lot of talent and more women are playing the sport, which is a great thing. Seeing Ariel get this opportunity is amazing, she has worked hard."

Bryan is a Franklin High School graduate, who played college basketball for the University of New Mexico Lobos before picking up competitive international flag football. She won gold medals at the 2023 IFAF Americas Continental Championships in Charlotte and captured the 2024 IFAF World Championship in Lahti, Finland. This will be her third year with the program.

Prior to playing for the UTEP softball team, Blair played softball and basketball at Hanks High School.

"I had tried out for the team before and this time I improved on my defense," Blair said. "This is a dream come true. Having two of us from El Paso means so much. Laneah is a great player and she's been helpful to me through this process."

The women's roster features 18 athletes chosen from a pool of 60 women who participated in last week's U.S. National Team Trials. The U.S. National Teams will compete in the IFAF Americas Continental Championship later this year. The U.S. Women’s National Team will also compete abroad in The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China this summer.

USA Football will announce the final 12-athlete roster and six alternates following a training camp held from May 15-18 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
