I dont know about possibly reviving "album-a-day" since it seems my last few attempts havent generated much of a response, but I just have to devote an entire thread to Jimi Hendrix's "Electric Ladyland"....
I've been listening to this nonstop for over the past few wks and just love each and every song.....
It's amazing how quite a few made guest cameos on there.... namely Steve Winwood contributing organ to "Voodoo Chile", Dave Mason from Traffic provided vocals to "Crosstown Traffic" along with acoustic guitar to "All Along the Watchtower", Jack Cassady from Jefferson Airplane played bass on "Voodoo Chile" and Chris Wood from Traffic also helped out in varying roles....
"1983" (A Merman Should I Turn To Be) is an epic prog-rock number ahead of its time that captures Hendrix at one of his most soulful moments.. "Long Hot Summer Night" dealt with some of the turbulence endured throughout the summer of '68 and "House Burning Down" regarded all the riots that plagued the nation throughout the mid-late 60s.... Obviously "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" and Gypsy Eyes were shimmering moments.. and "Rainy Day, Dream Away" was quite captivating... And the pure seductive nature of "Burning of the Midnight Lamp" had an allure on its own.....
I just feel that this was Hendrix's most complete album and again..it causes many to wonder "what if"..... I must admit that "Axis:Bold As Love" is my favorite, but "Electric Ladyland" doesnt trail that far behind.. Just exhibited the many dimensions of Hendrix and also he still had a lot more to offer.....
Who else loves this album as much as I?
