Cardinals | Smith Comments On Visit - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)
14:46 PT: AzCardinals.com reports free agent RB Emmitt Smith (Cowboys) had this to say about this visit with the Arizona Cardinals: "The Cardinals have some younger players on their ball club," explained Smith. “I don’t want them to feel threatened by me. I want them to receive me as one of their own. That is for any ball club. I am not coming in to be a distraction." Smith is looking for significant playing time and a team where he feels he can contribute both on and off the field. "Right now, I can say one thing about the Cardinals - I felt at home." Smith plans on visiting with a few other teams, but is hoping that this process moves fairly quickly.

Yeah, he really sounds like a headcase!

Ummm Ed what do you expect the guy to say??

"Yea I came to AZ and loved it and if that damn talented Shipp does beat me out for the staring job I will piss and moan like a baby just like I did in Dallas the last two years when I didnt get the carries I wanted"

You know as well as I do all FAs visit and say the right things regardless of what they are thinking.

Just tell me one thing, are you gonna keep banging this anti-Smith drum after he signs or will you promise to let it drop?

:)

Oh if he signs while I admittedly wont be happy. I will root for him just as I have any other Cardinal in the last 15 years of heartache!

I am a fan #1 and thats all that matters right Ed?

Most people have that logic. I was just wondering. I mean, like you said, once he's on the team you just deal with it and hope for the best even if you disagree.

I had to do the same when we drafted Jones. And Davis.

I was pretty strongly against Leonard Davis. Very much so.

While everyone would like me to eat a little crow, I still don't think Big has justified that draft position and salary yet. I mean, he's been good, but you can't draft a guy #2 overall, pay him $6 million a year, and have him be "good". He needs to take the next step real soon.

Ed - I'm getting a mixed message from you. What's with the heading?

I actually agree I posted that a couple of times during the season.

The problem is the guy I wanted, David Terrell, hasn't even been good yet with all the injuries and immaturity.

So it's kind of hard for me to "attack" Big when my choice has been far worse. I think Big is a very good RG, I think he was a good RT, I expect him to be so good at RT when Clement got hurt that he'd wind up either staying at RT or moving to LT because he simply was too good to "waste" at *. I didn't think he did that at RT he played well but not as well as I expected.

I gotta wonder how much of that was Warhop and how much was just all the guys getting hurt around him?

The title was a sarcastic response to the people who have criticizes Smith's potential "bad attitude".

I am very much in favor of signing Smith.

Russ, Terrell may have stunk so far, you have to admit that we really dodged a bullett by skipping him and Gerard Warren, both look like headcases and malcontents so far. But next season Davis's salary jumps to more than $6 million a year, and being a giant curiosity/freak of nature who makes some highlight blocks but also gets beat a lot and committs too many penalties isn't gonna be good enough anymore, he's gonna actually have to start playing like an elite tackle.

I wanted BIG when we drafted him and I happen to believe that he's, without question, the best player on this team. In fact, I think he's up there with the best offensive lineman in the NFL.

Really he got stunted by putting him out there as a gaurd. I know why they did it just to utilize him which in some ways is the sign of a desperate team.

He should have been a LT from the begining because it's never gonna be convienient to switch him over.

The team should have worked him in on a limited basis in year one at LT then traded Shelton in year two.

We couldn't do that because we needed him in there right away. To be fair all teams can run thin on the o line since the salary cap came into play it's a costly part of the team. I just happen to disagree with the new philosophy on O linemen drafted high that says you have to use them right away.

i'm 50-50 on signing Emmitt. Can't hurt us but i don't think it's anything major.I question whether bringing in these 10 year+ veterans because i don't think they go for Mac's rah-rah attitude he puts out.But at the same time, you need some veteran leadership on the team. One reason i would like to see Smith sign is because he'd probably assume the role as the offensive team leader in the clubhouse and push blake to the a secondary position. And from what i've seen and heard,Smith is a pretty good guy to have in the locker room.

Rose colored glasses. He's not even in the top 20 yet. Too many penalties, too many mental lapses, and way too much trouble with speed-rushers when he slid out to OT.

Does he have the talent to be the best? Yes. But to say he's already there is pure homerism. Go put in the tape from the Carolina game.
