3 against SD
3 against Colorado

We need to go at least 4-2 before heading to SF to start September

San Francisco has 3 more against Houston, then 3 vs Chicago

We should not be losing any series at home the rest of the way. That should go without saying with the competition we have left.

MLB network made a good point last night: don't count the Rockies out of the division race just yet.

The last few seasons, their hot month has been September and have proven they can win 10+ in a row. Yes, they are 9 back; however, they could a) play "spoiler" for either us or SF or b) if they get hot, they can contend and possibly take the lead. All it would take is both the Giants and D-Backs to sputter again at the same time, which they had been doing for the last couple of weeks.

In Colorado's last 10 games, they are 7-3.

D-Backs need to start hammering the competition on a consistent basis and ensure a potential Rockies' hot streak has no effect on the division race.

Even if Dbacks play slightly below .500 (15-16) over the remaining games, Colorado would have to go 24-7 just to tie the Dbacks.

While 15-16 is not out of the question for the Dbacks, 24-7 for a team that is currently 5 games under .500 is.

The Rockies won 21 of 22 at one point in Sept. 2007 to catch the D-Backs in games won to end the season (90). Never say never. Stay on point.

SF wins 2-1

Leaving tomorrow for a month in the bay area. They are tough when they score 2 runs. I will be wearing my DBack apparel every day I am there. I get many many comments just minding my own business.

Rockies lose. Now 10 back with 30 to play.

If Dbacks go 15-15, Colorado would need to go 25-5 to tie.

Colorado loses in 11 to Dodgers - now 11 back with 29 to play.

If the Dbacks go 14-15, Colorado would need to go 25-4 rest of way to tie.

Giants beat Houston 2-1 in the 10th to not lose ground to the D'backs.

Three nights total in this current series, the Giants have scored 5 runs against the lowly Astros. Telling you, score 3 runs against these clown and you're golden. Their offense is complete garbage. I have to imagine there are a few AAA ball clubs with a better line up

Meanwhile, I think the D'backs starting lineup last night is the best, most balanced, lineup they have used all season.

Bloomquist
Roberts
Upton
Montero
Goldschmidt
Young
Hill
Parra

Hill is no worse than Johnson was. Goldschmidt looked good in the heart of the order with Upton and Montero. And Parra sure makes the #8 spot an effective part of the batting order.

I am sure we will see a different look with a lefty starting against us today. But as far as our primary lineup, last night's looked to be the best we can have.

The Rockies won 21 of 22 at one point in Sept. 2007 to catch the D-Backs in games won to end the season (90). Never say never. Stay on point.

7 of those wins came against the Phillies (3 game sweep in the division series) and the Diamondbacks (4 game sweep in the NLCS). Plus they won one at the end of regular season that was a one-game playoff that counted towards the regular season. So, in reality, they won 13 of their last 14 regular season games, finished tied with the Padres and one game back of the D-backs. Then they beat the Padres in the one-game playoff to match the D-backs in wins.

To put the Rockies chances in perspective, on September 1st, 2007, they were only 6 games back. From that point on, they went 21-7, while the D-backs went 14-11. And they still couldn't catch Arizona.

MLB Network is wrong. Count the Rockies out.

6-0 on the homestand!!

Rockies in 4th now

I recant my statement about their ability to make a charge in the NL West. They're toast.

Now it's time to put the Giants out of their misery

2 back of Atlanta... 3 back of Milwaukee!!!! It can be done!

No need to catch Atlanta. As the wild card, they automatically get the 4th seed, and, if they win the division, the D-backs would get home field over them regardless of record.

That being said, catching Milwaukee would be HUGE. Difference between opening on the road in Philly versus Halladay and Lee or at home versus Atlanta.*

* - Barring any miraculous change in the standings, of course.
