I'm sort of torn, as down as the Pac 10 is right now I'm happy when anybody in the conference gets a commit that's good. But I'm also concerned because Kanter is a very iffy college recruit.

Kanter is currently playing at Stoneridge Prep in Simi Valley and reportedly had 48 in a recent game. He's from Turkey, 6'9" and the whole country knew about him but he wasn't as heavily recruited as you'd expect because nobody knows if he's going to be eligible. Like many foreign kids he played a lot of ball overseas in teams that may have had pros onboard and the Pac 10 is full of kids named Nikola who got suspended for 9-10 games for doing just that(dragovic, Kopriviza, Vucevic, Knezivic).

The story on Scout says he picked UW over USC and UCLA but UCLA recruiting guys say UCLA didn't offer. They looked at him, they think he could start for any teamin the pac 10 he's that good, but they decided they couldn't touch him because of the eligibility issues.

So he's a very good get for UW in the sense of talent, but he may never play for them.
