I could not watch the game versus San Diego, so I hope some of you could help me out. I am particularly interested in the defensive player, so I would like to know how some of the young guys, such as Cody Brown, Will Davis and Reggie Walker did? Also I can see that Victor Hobson had a sack. Did he have a good game other than that?

Just on last thing. I have read some of the other threads from last night. How good can LSH really be as a return man? Is he the next Devin Hester?

Thanks in advance.

Cody Brown was invisible. I'm not worried about his future but it appears he won't contribute much this year.
Davis had a nice pass rush on one play. He may get some playing time in situations this year.
I saw Walker on the field but he nothing note worthy.
Hobson make a great tackle at the goal line and did make a couple other plays as well.
LSH looked great on KO returns. He shows promise in the running game. He does not have Hesters speed so no he is not the next DH. He does appear to be the answer for our KO returner and should be a huge upgrade over JJ Arrington. If he can become the PR then he is a lock to make the team. Probably makes it anyway.

Devin Hester would've scored two TDs had he had the ball when LSH broke into the clear on the two big returns. I really like this kid though and there is no doubt in my mind the Cards will keep him. The only question is whether it's on the active roster and the cut Wright, or if they bring him back on the PS. Great job by the scouts getting this kid drafted.

Of the defensive players you mentioned, Hobson had the best game, Walker the second best. I watched Davis and Brown quite a bit and they need to get a bit more explosive and stronger, because once the T gets a good grip on them, they are done for that play.

Cody Brown and Will Davis both did very well against the run. But you will have to wait until towards the end of the year or until next year if you want a pass rush out of them. Its just the nature of the position, especially learning a brand new position. 95%of the 3-4 OLB do not come into the league ready to play. Heck any pass rusher all together whether that be a OLB or DE doesn't show much pass rush skill their first year. Just look at the pass rushers selected last year in the 1st two rounds - Harvey, Gholston, Merling, Groves, and so on. Not a one did much of anything concerning pass rush. Heck look at Mario Williams, it took him a year.

They can keep 4 running backs and one FB. No need to cut Wright or subject LSH to waivers.

Ware was also a guy who grew up a lot on the job. Pace is another example. Time to mature never hurts and if they guy can play, he'll find the field.

Sorry Gandhi ---- I don't TIVO the game or replay it on DVR. I just watch it in real time and give my 2 cents worth. My brain just doesn't pick up much on individual performances of plays or players. Not well suited to processing minutia I'm afraid.

What is it about the 3-4 or today's College pass rushers that they need that growing period? Simeon Rice had 12 sacks as a rookie and he was playing with Bernard Wilson next to him. Now guys need a year or more to get up to speed. Is it the size of the NFL Offensive Tackles or the spread offense run by most of the college teams, or that many OLB's in the 3-4 are converted de's or .....?

Is rice the exception or the rule though?

Rice also never had to learn any other aspect but pass rush. He was never asked to learn how to stop the run or he never bothered to.

Anyways, its such a tough transition for many reasons -

1. Position change is a biggy, just so much more to learn and so many more responsibilities.
2. Speed rush or sloppy other moves worked against college OT's. Now they have to learn other techniques and until those are perfected or they gain confidence in them they wont be effective. Hence the term when ever a rookie pass rusher is drafted everyone says they will be a situational pass rusher his first year.

Sorry joe, but Brown didn't show anything in the run game either. The guy either gets blown up every play or looks lost. 2 bad games for Cody, while Davis has showed something in both.

Any one else think it's funny that Ghandi is asking to be "enlightened?"

Not as good as someone named Bhudda asking to be enlightened, but still...

:)

- Cody's about to go on IR.

- Actually, I thought Will Davis looked slightly better than Cody - nice inside-outside blitz move to contain the SD quarterback on a rollout.

- Walker has seen some action, but I didn't notice anything special.

- I like the way Hobson squares up to stop the inside run.

- LSH looks like our best return man since Vai Sikahema. He's also unafraid to lower a shoulder running inside the tackles.

- Garvin looked good, but is missing 2 or 3 games (which gave LSH his chance). PS candidate (if we can sneak him past Haley)

- Toler has all the physical equipment but got taken to school by SD's receivers. He did lead the team in tackles (7) and I love his willingness to stick his nose into the action. If and when he catches up on the nuances of playing CB in the pros, I think he's a keeper with All Pro potential. If.

- It is said the coaches love Herman Johnson; however, the entire 2nd O-line unit (Ross, E Brown, Claxton, Johnson, Keith) was constantly pushed around on running plays (LSH was running up the backs of his own blockers two yards into the backfield) and was a bit shaky in pass pro as well. They're still getting by on potential more than production.

- I think Palko, in his brief appearance, is better suited to be our #3 than is BSP.

- We're not going to be able to keep all our wideouts. Cutdown Day will be a tough time.

The only question is whether it's on the active roster and the cut Wright, or if they bring him back on the PS.

After LSH's performance against San Diego, there is no way he would pass waivers. Therefore Practice Squad is out.

Which reminds me... I might have just located my '9th' round fantasy pick that will add positive value to MY team.
