Off hand I'd say your mbr [master boot record] or boot sector is corrupt.

Question 1, do you have backups ?

If so then you may be able to repair it by booting from your windows cd, am doing the same myself atm for a different reason.

But before doing anything, I'd wait until a few more chime and say aye or nay

You lost your bootable partition. You could try going into safe mode (usually pressing F8). That might allow you to boot up in Safe mode, then use the Restore option.

If you can't even get that far, it's possible your hard drive just bit the dust.

Did you change anything on your Hard drive or try any time of format?

As Steeldog, says, the whole drive cold be buggered as well.

I'm just thinking about boot sectors right now myself, who knows you might get lucky.

You can't get into safe mode if the boot sector is kaput, that only helps is windows or a driver is having issues

Check your bios and make sure you are attempting to access a bootable disk. I've had this little gremlin bite on me before....
