Just about to post this. Dont agree with his thoughts on Haren really, but I guess the key is he was saying for 2011. But when Skaggs is dealing in the show next year with Bauer and Parker, it will all make sense.

We can make the playoffs this year.

If all goes right with our young pitchers, we could win the WORLD SERIES next year.

Haren has a 2.95 ERA for the Angels and has allowed less than a baserunner per inning. Skaggs might be a star someday, but in 2011, trading Haren might have cost the Diamondbacks a playoff spot.

Argghh... I still can't figure out why they trade him away - neither can the writer.

Like AF said, between Saunders and the prospects, I believe in the long run we got the long end of that deal.

My read on the Haren deal was the front office couldn't figure what it wanted to do other than unload salary, so they traded Haren without any real long-term plan.
