It isn't really that farfetched. If the coaches aren't sold on Leinart then it makes sense to have a developmental QB on the squad. I don't know if they would take a QB in the first round, though.

If he fell to 26 I would most certainly take him. His potential impact is quite abit higher than any other prospect on the board at that point. Heck if he was there in the late teens early 20's I'd think about trading up to get him, he could be a heck of a player in the NFL.

Look at the good QBs in the NFL, the majority were taken in the 1st round, and Clausen would not have to start right away since Leinart and Anderson are already on the roster.

I'd probably be semi-okay taking him at 26 (and I'm a Leinart supporter), but it seems to me there are some bigger wholes to fill at other positions. I'm not even sure he'd be the best player on the board at that point.

The reason i'd be okay is that it IS such an important position it's better to have your bases covered than be left with bare cupboards if Leinart doesn't work out.

I heard the report. This was pure speculation based on the fact we went after Whitehurst. However they forgot to take into account that the Cards backed off due to demands in salary and/or compensation. Seeing as it would likely cost more than a 3rd rounder to move up to get him, I don't seeing us trading up to get him. Just too expensive

Now if he falls into our laps and our coaching staff is sold on him than that would be a completely different story.

You are my new best friend. If the Cardinals draft Claussen in the first, or even if they trade up for him in the second, I am totally out.

I am absolutely convinced he would be.

I would not be upset with the Cody pick at all if it went that way.

If Bradford is taken #1, I would be surprised if Claussen gets passed the Redskins.

NFL network and ESPN radio constantly make mention of how Al Davis himself still has confidence in Russell. Guess that would let us know if its true.

BIM: past.

First round QB's (that I would want) do not lose to Navy.

That would be a dream come true. He would instantly be the best QB on this team, a huge upgrade from day one.

Any time you upgrade a position with a pick, you have done your job in the draft.

If he's there at #26, we have the ultimate trade down tool in this draft. Let's find out what we really have in OUR FIRST ROUND QB PICK before heading in this direction, particularly with the needs we have on "D".

I don't think you know on draft day if you've upgraded a position or not. We all thought we upgraded when we drafted Leinart, too. Look how that turned out--Warner wen on to take us to a superbowl and cemented his place in Canton. Leinart is still very much an unknown.

Offcourse, i was saying that as IMO, not a general statement. That should be the case for any post telling anything about the future. That is given and does not need to be said every time you post.

And no, not everybody thought that we upgraded when we drafted Leinart. I certainly did not, and thought it was a waste of a pick and we had a HOF QB and did not need anyone else at the time. That turned out to be correct. When Matt Ryan was there, i wanted to trade up and get him. He certainly would be great to have now, as much as we all like DRC. A QB is just much more important.

As for Clausen, offcourse nothing is given now, and we will see what happens. It's just my prediction and my opinion/guess that he even in his first year will be better than both Leinart and Anderson.

I watched most of the Notre Dame games Claussen played. I cannot see how you can be so sure. Especially in his first year.

I saw nothing special from him either. He only looks slightly better than his brothers.

I'm calling BS on this one. I don't have a way to prove it, but I seriously doubt that you knew that Warner was going to be as good as he was here.
