These guys are ridiculous. It took about 5 other newspapers and the JW to come out and say that the deal was NOT imminent, before they change their headlines. I think the suns arent just competing with houston, but also with david stern and espn. Youve gotta admit that stern would love for yao to team up with tmac.

David Stern and ESPN have no bearing on it.

I really do think a big reason the Houston deal didn't go through is because EVERYONE besides people in houston said it was horrible for the Magic.

I am glad Jim Gray looks like a jackass now though. Way to mess up your first big story.

Personally I think the title of this thread is pretty funny. That said, I'm going to change it. I hope no one gets bent out of shape about it. For the most part everybody here is pretty good about their language and the content of their posts. I don't like to edit them unless they are very bad. I'm changing this because it is the title of a thread.

I honestly don't see how we can fault Jim Gray or ESPN on this one. By all accounts the Houston deal was almost done. It wasn't until reports broke that the deal was supposedly eminent that these other teams like the Phoenix Suns upped the ante and changed things.

Okay, but I'd better not see any of your masturbation jokes making their way into a thread title. What next, no discussion of ED? That's one of the hottest sport topics out there.

I thought there were no reports to that effect other than Gray's. It was just a bunch of people quoting Gray, but I never read any further corroboration. Nothing ever appeared on NBA.com, for instance.

One little joke about somebody spending too much time in the bathroom with a picture of Penny Hardaway and I'm branded a masturbation joker! It's just not fair. :)

you have good point, but I haven't seen anyone say that the deal wasn't as close as Jim Gray was first reporting. What they said is that teams like the Phoenix Suns started calling like crazy as soon as news of the deal broke.

If they are conceding that Tracy McGrady will be traded I really don't see why they would be in a rush anyhow. I guess what the Phoenix Suns and the #7 draft pick potentially involved they would want to get the player that they like.

Nobody is saying we haven't offered JJ, Marion and the #7 either--doesn't make it true though.

I'm confused.

BTW the Arizona Republic/AZCentral reported this morning that the Phoenix Suns are not offering JJ. The article that slin posted in another thread from ESPN's FrontPage is saying that the Phoenix Suns do not want to include JJ in the trade.

Sorry. I know it sounded confusing. I was just pointing out your view of the situation:

Report: Jim Gray was the only guy who reported the upcoming trade.

Joe: Yes, but nobody said that Gray was wrong, so he was most likely right.

If someone says that my eyes are green, and nobody (including me) refutes that, does that automatically make my eyes green?

thanks. Good point. I thought there were other sources corroborating Jim Gray's stories although none of them were writing their own stories about it saying it was done.

this thread's title is incorrect anyways

the ESPN report was NOT premature - it was flat out WRONG

you saw how much jim gray backtracked. first he said they needed to get extra guys in the orlando side, then he said extra guys in the houston side, then he said 'well, we gotta wait on the expansion draft', then he said 'i mean, orlando is trying to trade francis, so we gotta wait', then he says 'well nothing can be done until july 1st, so we gotta wait'. in the meantime, the actual PLAYERS in the deal (as well as whether they were protected or not) changed about TEN times. its total crap!

I gotta say, my respect of ESPN has diminished dramatically after this crap, and the a-rod crap.

shades of tom brokaw - 'NBC news is now projecting shaquille o'neal will win a title with dallas in 2007, all other teams should just concede defeat'.
