Top-100 picks are mostly seen as the prospects who have a strong chance of contributing in Year 1, and possibly from Week 1. And while the Dallas Cowboys sits at No. 12 and should be able to grab an instant impact player, there's a chance that staying put with just those three picks means that one of their glaring needs remains unfulfilled. Moving back from No. 12 might give the Cowboys the opportunity to land at least one more Top-100 pick.

With many prognosticators feeling that this is a relatively weak class in terms of blue-chip prospects, there's likely going to be a lot of movement as teams identify prospects they truly believe in amongst a sea of lottery tickets. So if Dallas wants to capitalize on other team's desires and grab more scratch-off tickets, they might have a great opportunity in 2025.

Recently, ESPN's Bill Barnwell took to the task of identifying three teams he believes would be willing to trade back and three teams interested in moving up within the first round. The Cowboys were on neither of the lists, but that doesn't mean they aren't a real consideration. Dallas has plenty of needs they'll try to resolve and they only have three top-100 picks.

One of the most exciting aspects of each year's NFL draft is the uncertainty. Waiting to see what happens when a team is on the clock and a preferred target is available is often cause for nervous energy to explode. But when a team is on the clock and the TV broadcasters announce the club has passed up the opportunity to grab a player and chooses to move back, or climb the draft order to go get their guy via trade? Emotions are sprayed everywhere.

The Cowboys' No. 12 pick is worth 1200 points on the Jimmy Johnson trade value chart, which still remains the baseline for pick value in NFL trades. Here are the three teams Barnwell identified as trade-up candidates, and what the Cowboys could expect in return for the No. 12 selection.

Green Bay Packers

The Packers currently have the No. 23 overall selection. That pick is worth 760 points, and moving down 11 spots would be a sizable drop for the Cowboys to endure. Making up the 440 points would be difficult because the Packers' 2nd round pick is only worth 360.

A fair trade point-wise would be Green Bay's first rounder in 2026, but would Dallas want to give up 11 prospects for having two firsts next draft?

Cowboys Wire's Proposed Trade: Cowboys send 1.12 to Packers for 1.23, 2.54, 2026 3rd-round pick

Next-year picks are generally valued at 50% of this year's selection. So the Packers picks would be 760+360+~78.

Seattle Seahawks

Seattle sits with the No. 18 pick in the first round. That's worth 900 points and the Seahawks are loaded with picks. They have two second-round selections as well as two third rounders.

CW's Proposed Trade: Cowboys send 1.12, 6.204 to Seahawks for 1.18, 3.82 and 3.92

The Seahawks two third rounders total 312 points on the Johnson value chart, so Dallas sends back a sixth rounder worth 9.4 points.

Detroit Lions

Dan Campbell's Lions have become one the NFC's better teams, and they might be looking to swing for the fences in this year's first round. 1.28 is worth 660 points, a huge gap to make up that would require the Lions' first rounder in 2026.

CW Proposed Trade: Cowboys send 1.12, 3.76 to Lions for 1.28, 2.60, 3.102 and 2026 first-round pick.

This one is hard to imagine because the Cowboys haven't really shown the ability to calculate trades of this many moving parts. Dallas' pick values are 1410, while Detroits would be 660+300+92=1052, with their 2026 pick adding another 330 to make things close.
