PHOENIX -- The Diamondbacks continued their frenetic offseason pace Monday when they signed free agent left-hander Shawn Estes to a one-year contract, according to a baseball source.
The D-Backs, who are preparing to introduce Shawn Green and possibly Javier Vazquez and Brad Halsey in a Tuesday press conference, declined comment.
Estes, who turns 32 next month, was 15-8 with a 5.84 ERA in 34 starts for the Rockies in 2004. Interestingly, he had a better record at hitter-friendly Coors Field (8-2) than he did on the road (7-6). Over his 10-year career, Estes is 92-81 with a 4.71 ERA.
The Valley resident would join Vazquez, Russ Ortiz and Brandon Webb in the rotation with the fifth starter still to be determined.
Estes received an offer for one year with an option from the Padres and a two-year offer from the Nationals, according to his agent Dave Meier. The Arizona offer was for a shorter term and for less money than the other two.

And while Meier declined to confirm Estes had made a final decision, he did say that family considerations -- he has two children under the age of 15 months -- weighed heavily in Estes' deliberations.
It's been a fast and furious two months for the Diamondbacks, who have worked overtime over the past few weeks to finalize big trades involving Randy Johnson and Green. Those two deals are expected to become official Tuesday, provided all the players involved passed their Monday physicals.
Once those trades are finalized, Arizona is expected to send infielder Shea Hillenbrand to the Blue Jays for young reliever Adam Peterson.
