I would not mind the Diamondbacks getting Eric Byrnes. I would not try and get Cameron due to his wrist injury, plus he has a big contract.

With his 20 HR and 73 RBI last season with the A's -- and 17 stolen bases in 18 attempts -- and .283 batting average -- Eric Byrnes would be a good candidate for CF. And he's a right handed hitter.

But with his 111 SO (vs. 46 BB), I hope he would not occupy the leadoff position.

A batting order of

1-Counsell 2B
2-Clayton SS
3-Gonzo LF
4-Glaus 3B
5-Green RF
6-Byrnes CF
7-Tracy 1B
8-Hill C

would be pretty good, as far as balance of getting on base and power. Or Green to 1B and a different RF.

Lefty-righty, lefty-righty, down to a switch-hitting Catcher. A leadoff guy who knows how to work the pitcher and get on base. A classic #2 batter. 3-6 in the 20-45 homerun range.

Eric Byrnes is likely a pipe dream. GMs generally don't trade good players who make nothing although I don't think he walks enough for Beane's liking. Regardless, it's probably going to take Jackson or Quentin to get it done.

All the names being rumored for CF (Cameron, Rowand, Pierre, etc.) are all solid options.

I am not sold on Counsell being the everyday second baseman. The guy dis not have a good year last year and he is past his prime in my opinion. I still believe second base is open and will be won in spring training. I wouldn't count out Hairston or Kata, even if that is not saying much.

Isnt Byrnes up for arbitration this year? Im pretty sure he is and thus would get a big payday, something the A's might not be able to afford.
