The 2024-2025 NBA regular season is now complete, with the postseason getting underway this past weekend. And with that, awards season is also upon us.
On Sunday, the league announced the finalists for its major season awards. Included among the finalists for Defensive Player of the Year was former USC star and current Cleveland Cavaliers big man Evan Mobley.
Mobley is currently in his fourth season with Cleveland, who selected him third overall in the 2021 NBA Draft. On the season, he averaged a career-high 18.5 points per game, in addition to 9.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.6 blocks.
Thanks in large part to Mobley’s impressive year, the Cavaliers finished the regular season 64-18 and earned the top seed in the Eastern Conference. On Sunday, they opened up their postseason run with a 121-100 win over the Miami Heat. Mobley had nine points and seven rebounds in the victory.
