Everton Women frustrate Manchester City with WSL stalemate
The business end of the season is here and two more Women's Super League games took place on Sunday afternoon.
After Manchester United were held to a draw and Liverpool picked up a win on Saturday, Manchester City, Everton, Aston Villa and Tottenham were among the sides in action.
Here's how the action unfolded...
Everton frustrate Manchester City
Scorers: Casparij 13', Holmgaard 33'
It took just 13 minutes for Manchester City to open the scoring against Everton, with Kerstin Casparij starting and finishing the move before holding up Mary Fowler’s shirt in celebration, following confirmation earlier in the week that the 22-year-old had suffered an ACL injury.
Everton showed their resilience, though, as the Holmgaard twins combined to provide the Toffees with an equaliser before the break, with Sara’s cross headed in at the back post by Karen.
There was far less goalmouth action in the second half but it was Everton who came closest to scoring as the Holmgaards almost combined again in an identical move, though this time Karen's header missed the target.
The result leaves City fourth in the table, seven points behind third-placed United, with only the top three qualifying for next season's Champions League.
In play
In the later kick off, a struggling Aston Villa side take on Tottenham Hotspur at Brisbane Road in hope of moving closer to WSL safety.
