The Montreal Canadiens are 3-0 versus the Ottawa Senators this season. You first noticed that they can’t seem to hold a lead. They lost two of them in their most recent contest. I think the issue with that was more about Linus Ullmark than the Senator's defense. His career save percentage against the Canadiens is .869. Maybe that’s why?
Brady Tkachuk has been mostly neutralized. In the last two games against the Habs, he has one point with just seven shots on goal. Karine talked about his lack of physicality and I dug into that and two in the last game he played against them. He averages 3.32 hits per game. To be fair to Tkachuk, he had a hip ailment heading into the game last night.
In the last three games, the Canadiens averaged 15 blocked shots per game and 5.6 takeaways per game. They average just 1.76 takeaways per game. That’s huge and it shows that the players play differently against Ottawa for sure.
Jake Sanderson got victimized in this game and that doesn’t happen very often. The Canadiens showed great speed and good jam and the two teams have one more game left I would say that Ottawa will try and avenge all of these losses but the Canadiens may have a formulaic way of beating them. We shall see. The season is getting more important as each game ticks off the schedule. The season is now a sprint to the playoffs.
