Fabrizio Romano details why Chelsea view new £40m man as “perfect player” for the future

Chelsea see new signing Geovany Quenda as a “perfect” player for the future according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues completed a shock move for the 17-year-old on Friday, and will pay Sporting Lisbon around £40m for the youngster.

Quenda will remain with Sporting next season before joining up with his new Chelsea team-mates in the summer of 2026.

Romano has revealed Chelsea acted fast in order to beat Bayern Munich to Quenda, and it’s seen as somewhat of a coup the Blues have been able to pull this signing off.

Quenda is regarded as one of the top talents in his age group, and the teenager has already made 43 appearances for Sporting this season, including ten in the Champions League.

As well as Quenda the Blues also have Estevao Willian and Kendy Paez arriving this summer, meaning they have three of the most exciting under-18 talents in world football.

Quenda had been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and a reunion with Ruben Amorim before the Blues swept in.

Romano has now revealed what Chelsea think of Quenda and how Enzo Maresca is being involved in transfer decisions.

“Chelsea are involving Enzo Maresca on transfer decisions for the present and future and have had many conversations,” he told his Youtube channel.

“They see Geovany Quenda as a perfect player to be a winger of the future, to play 1v1. That’s what the player wants, not wingback.”

With Quenda’s impending arrival it’s likely there will be a lot of movement in the wide areas with departures expected.

It’s unlikely youngster Tyrique George will be around long term, whilst Mykahilo Mudryk could have played his last game for the club and Noni Madueke has been previously linked with a move to Newcastle United.
