I don't know if you guys caught Warners post game comments, but he uttered the words "torn ligaments". It sounded to me like he knows it's going to be a while. If he did indeed tear ligaments would that end his season? Anybody know?

We need to get Brown and Boldin back REAL soon. We have to pull together and let our All Pros carry this team.

4-6 weeks probably

but yeah, you can't have a guy prone to fumbling go back in when he can't hold a ball with 2 hands because of the injury

Dude.... If he is out 4 to 6 weeks.... we might be in trouble. Atleast we have a bye after next weeks game in DC.

With the secondary in Washington, we will be in for an almost impossible matchup.

Remember.... Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl. IMO Clancy is going to either keep or lose his job over the next month.

Wouldn't you need an MRI to show ligaments? Maybe he said he'll have one to check for torn ligaments.

I don't know , Alan. He stated, " When you tear ligaments you have no strenght". Thats not an exact quote, but those words were mentioned. It just sounded to me that he knew it was worse than we all hope.

AP's story says Warner sprained his elbow. Followed by:

Warner said he didn't know if he would be available when the Cardinals visit Washington next week.

Maybe he really didn't say torn ligaments.

This is the AP story from 8:30 PM CST

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Arizona starting quarterback Kurt Warner sprained his left elbow in the first quarter against Carolina on Sunday, and the team doesn't know when he might return.

Warner made his first start in place of Matt Leinart, who is out for the season with a broken collarbone.

Warner said he didn't know if he would be available next week, when the Cardinals visit Washington.
"Now we're just playing it by ear," Warner said. "We'll see the extent of it and see what we can do as far as getting me back as soon as possible."
Warner got hurt on a sack by Carolina defensive end Julius Peppers midway through the first quarter. Warner fumbled on the play, and Peppers recovered.
"It was really just trying to recover the football," Warner said. "As I reached out for the football, whoever it was put full force on my arm and just hurt the ligaments in there.
Warner went 2-of-2 for 21 yards. Tim Rattay, signed last week as Arizona's only backup, replaced Warner. He completed 12-of-24 passes for 159 yards and no touchdowns, and he threw three interceptions.

I was watching Warner on the sidelines and he didn't seem to have any discomfort. He had the elbow wrapped for awhile but in the second half the wrap was removed. I don't see any reason to believe the injury is serious. I would think torn ligaments would be painful. We will have to wait till tomorrow to find out the extend of his injuries.

Listen to his interview on the Cards site. He said it. If they are torn he's probably done. I've done it, extensive rehab to prevent atrophy.

On the post game show, Whis said he didn't have the strength in the arm to grip the ball. Yeah, it's not his throwing arm, but you do need two arms to play QB.

I dunno. I'm not too optimistic about it. I hope I'm wrong.

After seeing the replay, I thought he was done for the season, but when he left the field with the trainer he was swinging his arm as he walked like nothing was wrong with it. I would think that if the ligaments were torn he would have held it against his body and favored it. Hopefully it was just a hyper-extension/sprain and the ligaments are in-tact.

If he is done for the season, I can't help but wonder if he has played his final game.

FYI, "sprain" is a fancy word for torn ligaments. The question should be "how severe is Warner's sprain?" Or "How badly did Warner tear is ligaments?"

http://www.mensarticles.com/fitness/820-tornligamentsprain.html

A torn ligament, also known as a sprain, is an overstretching or tear of the bank of fibrous tissues that connects bone to bone or cartilage to bone. It is almost always the result of a sudden force, typically a twisting motion, that the surrounding muscles are not strong enough to control. Like strains (pulled muscles), sprains can range from minor tears to complete ruptures.

your shoulder swings your arm....not your arm swings your arm.

lesson:

re: he looked fine.

When you tear the ligament it initially hurts, you'll actually feel the ligament rip off in most cases. You will feel fine after no pain what so ever. You'll notice your body won't do what it used to.

I hope he's fine and I hope he can learn to hold onto the %$W$ ing ball!

I'm no PT, and I did not sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but I would think that torn ligaments in an elbow would be more comfortable with the arm extended. Those ligaments have to stretch when you bend your elbow. My guess is having the arm hang would feel best.

Maybe he thought they were torn but an MRI showed only a strain? Knock on wood

Drat, I thought a strain and a tear were different.

A strain and a tear are different. A sprain and a tear are the same. However, he may have sprained his legiments and only strained his ligaments. In which case, he'll be right as rain. :)

I think I meant to write sprain....I don't know anymore. Fortunately for the sick I am not a doctor, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express lately. :)

Warner talk

There is an ESPN report out that says Kurt Warner will miss a week with his bad elbow. I'm not sure exactly where that is coming from, since coach Ken Whisenhunt specifically did not put any time frame on the injury out there and Warner was not available for interviews today. But I will say that it should probably say at least one week. It's unlikely Warner won't miss any time, but to say he will definitely only miss a single game is probably a little presumptuous at this point.

lol. Only a Ram fan would consider 'sprain' to be a "fancy" word. Ohh, it's got more than 4 letters in it.... fancy!

Sigh. You got me. Your razor sharp wit has me emotionally scarred. I suspect it will be months before I ever leave the house.
