Jurecki, seems to believe Cooper is sitting purely because he got healthy late, Larsen was playing ok, and Goodwin really prioritizes continuity on an offensive line. I questioned it as coach speak, but he seems to buy the Goodwin-continuity statement.

That's BS. If you have a superior player, a #1 pick, with talent and the ability to play well, you don't sit his ass because average players are "jelling". That's ridiculous. You don't sit #1 picks if they can bust ass, and you don't sit potential pro bowlers if they can bust ass.

He's sitting because he isn't much better, if at all, than what we already have. If he was way better, and pulling and trucking dudes, he'd be starting.

Veldheer seems to be jelling just fine and he just got here. Lol. Dumb argument, meant to save face for JC.

(And off topic but how damn good is Veldheer? He's been freaking nails. What a steal from the hapless Raiders!)

I'm just telling you what I am hearing. And Jurecki isn't the only one to say this.

I thought it was all coach speak, and maybe it is, but multiple people are reporting that Cooper is on the bench until Larsen plays awful enough to force a change.

Understood, didn't mean to imply you were an apologist or making excuses for JC. I meant coaches and reporters. Coaches, especially, don't want to destroy his confidence (it's a bit like saying we'll be fine with Stanton) but the truth is if he were playing like a #1 pick he'd be in there already. The fact that he has to wait for one of them to get hurt or suck worse says alot.

The broadcast crew for todays game mentioned that the Redskins coaches said Faniaka is our best Olineman. I'm not buying that but if he is playing that well it helps explain why Watford and Cooper can't beat him out. Not sure how Larsen keeps his spot and I'm also not buying the continuity spin except that Coop isn't playing well and Watford isn't a good fit for LG in this scheme.

I don't watch the trenches enough but I don't recall seeing Larsen doing much pulling.

Yeah Larsen looks slow when pulling in the run game. He just doesn't have the athleticism that Cooper showed last preseason. However I think Larsen is doing a decent job in pass protection which is why the coaches are hesitant to make a change.

I know coaches like to keep continuity along the line, but at a certain point, it becomes evident that Larsen and/or Fanaika aren't the best guards on the roster. Larsen gets pushed back a good deal and Fanaika is just mediocre in all phases. I think Cooper needs to be put in soon.
