Was a stud before and this should only help. No loss of speed either. More proof that this kid takes his job seriously and has taken what the coaches have told him to heart. Could be one of the better draft picks this team has made if he continues to stay healthy.

Maybe K9 won't rag on him about his weight anymore? Nahh he probably will. :D

If you look at his picture from OTA's, you can definitely see a size difference. I said it almost a week ago to a buddy of mine. Mark my words, DW is gonna bring it this year.

I thought his size was a problem when he came out. It turns out that not only did the coaching staff agree, but Daryl thought he needed to put on weight, too. So much for all those people who thought that Daryl Washington could succeed at 224, huh?

Great work by Daryl Washington and the training staff at getting the weight on. It's more difficult for some guys than you might think.

If the kid played for Dallas or the Giants, he would have been a Pro Bowler last year. I was happy with the pick, but I'm thrilled with the results so far. Great character, and when you read how hard he works it reminds me of Von Miller. Miller's workout regimen at A&M was legendary stuff.

Just send him my way if he needs help with that. :bang:

Who was that dufus defensive end we had, he played at Wisconsin, and he put on a bunch of pounds, at the coaches request. by pounding donuts, milkshakes, pizza and fast food. Good lord was that stupid. It killed his career too. Man it was tough hanging in there iwith this team in the earlly 2000s.

Was it Burke, maybe? Anyone remember?

I sincerely hope we lock up Washington on a long-term deal. He's been everything I hoped he would be when he was drafted. This news just makes me appreciate him even more.

When Daryl Washington first arrived in Arizona, special teams coach Kevin Spencer asked him if he was the new strong safety. (I’m not sure if Spencer was joking, but I’m guessing he knew exactly who Washington was.)

Well now we know who you are. I always thought your screen name had to do with Jack but now I know the K is for Kevin and the 9 is for how many points you want from special teams each game. :D

I must be getting old. My poor memory keeps telling me that most of the pro-Washington crowd acknowledged that he could use a little weight and were confident that Lott would build him up.

Correct. Many of posts saying he is great, we love him and he will bulk up as he ages. But, we did also say that he is fine where he is even if he didnt bulk up but it would help

Tom Burke. The 2000 Cardinal media guide mentions that Burke had a daily breakfast of 12 eggs, a pound of bacon, and an entire loaf of buttered toast!!

Burke showed alot of promise as a rookie in 1999 when he weighed around 265 pounds. In 2000, he showed up around 295!!

some people can eat like that though

apparently Michael Phelps eats three fried egg sandwiches with cheese, tomatoes, fried onions and mayo. Then he has a five egg omelet, a bowl of grits, three slices of French toast and three pancakes with chocolate chips

and has to - but he trains much harder than burke did.

Phelps also apparantly has to smoke weed to put down all the food too. Think its funny he took heat for that, how the hell else could you put down 10k calories in a sitting?

Daryl sheds blocks pretty damn well. He takes incredible angles and tackles with force. His speed is uncanny. Were very lucky to have him for sure.

sure. Elite athletes train the hardest

he didn't catch heat for smoking weed. He caught heat for having his picture taken smoking weed at a party. That's the life of a role model

Wendell Bryant was a real winner from Wisconsin too. Let's hope Schofield breaks the trend of defensive front players from Wisconsin being total Cardinal busts!!
