I would think Gonzo is the face of the Diamondbacks but the fans voted RJ. They just showed it on ESPN.

I would have voted for RJ. I thought Brennaman needed a reality injection today saying Gonzo was the 'greatest player to wear a Diamondback Uniform.'

I agree w/ Zenny. Gonzo was an above average player, who did some nice things in AZ. But he's only the third best player to ever put on the Dbacks uniform.

Agreed. I gotta agree with the sentimental feelings everyone had, Gonzo's been in town since Year 2 of the Franchise, and Gonzo has been a key to this franchise's success both on the field and in the community, however anyone who says Gonzo's done more than Randy Johnson is really needing a reality check.

But to even hint, as Thom did, that he'll get HOF consideration is absurd.
Why? Stats don't lie and he was right there with all the other HOF left fielders that are there. He's the face of the D-Backs to me.

He has some nice stats but they are not HOF material. There are some great players with much better stats that are not in the HOF. I wish Gonzo all the best but I think his stats next year are going to be down, unless he ends up in Colorado.

Gonzos stats are good, above average even, but when you consider that the voters will be considering he was playing in an era of diluted pitching, tiny ballparks and juice, offensive numbers are going to have to be staggering to get into the HOF.

Hey, I'm a Gonzo fan as much as the next guy, but when you consider the fact that some people were questioning whether Rafael Palmiero was a Hall of Famer BEFORE this steroids mess went down, what chance does Gonzo have?

I have no questions he'll be in the Arizona Diamondback Hall of Fame, but the MLB one? I just can't see it.

No chance Gonzo makes the HoF. But in my opinion, time of service with the franchise weighs heavily in a discussion of "the greatest player of a team." Sure, Schilling and Johnson have had greater overall careers than Gonzo, but I'm not sure that means they have a better arguement than Gonzalez for the title of greatest Dback due to the time of service of each.

Another vote for the Unit as our best player ever. He was the best pitcher in the league 4 straight years. You can't say Gonzo was the best hitter in the league even once.

There's no shame in being a franchise's second best player. Gonzo's had a great run here and I'm glad he got the recongnition he deserved the last couple weeks. Best of luck to him in whatever he chooses next!

I totally agree but he did have one HOF year.

Without Gonzo, no way the Dbacks win that ring.

what team do you think randy will go into the hof as?

I thought the HOF stopped having players go in with specific teams, because players were practically "selling" out for whichever team gave them the best deal.

That said, if there was a team, I imagine he'd go in as Dback. Had his best years here, and the World Series too.

If Randy doesn't go in as a D-Back, he will be questioned by everyone as to why? - Earned 4 Cy Youngs as a D-Back, Threw a perfect game as a D-Back, won a WS as a D-Back, and was named as a Co-MVP of the WS as a D-Back... He can't match that anywhere else.

As far as the "face of the franchise" of course it is Gonzo! He truly did love the team, fans, community... the others just 'played here'.

I hope that Stephen Drew, Carlos Quenton, and Chris Young saw how much the fans embrassed Gonzo. I hope they learned a little bit about being a good player and an even better ambassador of the game. I would like to see the three of them (along with Brandon Webb) get that kinda love in 10-15 years when they end their careers with the D-Backs. Hopefully, we can show highlights of them hosting the WS trophy also.

I thought we established that the Hall of Fame decides what team is player is associated with in the Hall.
