Plot Summary: “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is an all-new adventure returning us to the wizarding world created by J.K. Rowling.

Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne (“The Theory of Everything”) stars in the central role of wizarding world magizoologist Newt Scamander, under the direction of David Yates, who helmed the last four “Harry Potter” blockbusters.

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

Loved it, a ton of fun. Better than any of the HP movies IMO. Really endearing characters and the effects were just increadible.

I really, REALLY loved this movie...for about an hour and fifty minutes. It had a ton of heart and some great characters, although the HP movies were definitely better, IMO. But damn, was the deus ex machina STRONG in this movie, and damn, did the end draaaaaaaaaaaaaag. Also, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but damn, was there too much magic. I mean, at least in the HP movies, it wasn't some unlimited godlike power that every witch and wizard could use at disproportionate levels. Unfortunately, in this one, it is.

I mean, come on. Every single wizard can walk around waving their wand and putting entire cities back together? And somehow the really convenient, sappy fix-all at the end ONLY affects muggles (or no-majs)? Lame, lame, lame, lame!

Don't get me wrong. I liked it and will watch the next one. I just felt they fumbled the last half-hour of the movie to a large extent.

I very much enjoyed this movie - from beginning to end.

And the constant use of Magic, by full-trained wizards is consistent with the books. If you read them, you will see that type of magic whenever fully-trained witches and wizards are around. We just don't see them that much since the books focus on students learning magic.

And also remember - the wizards you see are the best of the best - an international meeting of magic was happening in New York at the time, plus the wizards/witches at the Headquarters are going to be the top ones as well.

Good movie. It dragged for a bit in the middle but then quickly picked back up again. Not sure all the characters were as likeable as the previous movies but still a good movie. It also did feel like this was a setup for the coming sequels though. Still recommend if you are even a remote fan of the Harry Potter world. Cool magic effects and as stated above it was refreshing to see a world of trained wizards wielding magic not to mention a reference to characters we already know. Looking forward to what is coming.

I very much disagree. I've read the books, multiple times, and no, I don't see this as standard wizarding activity. Each and every wizard seemed to be able to seamlessly put an entire city back together. All of them. That's extreme power, and should be extremely specialized. From the books, you know that all but the tip top (think McGonigal (sp?), Dumbledore, etc) aren't experts at nearly everything. In this, they are. Just too convenient for my tastes.

If this were the wizarding world, you'd be a squib. But I'd still be nice to you cuz I'm not racist. :p
