Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, the follow-up to last year’s hit Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The sequel’s official title, cast photo, and plot summary were unveiled Thursday.

Law will play the gifted mage Albus Dumbledore, offering a glimpse of the powerful wizard before he became the Hogwarts elder who mentored Harry Potter. He’ll be a key ally to Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander, the central figure in the planned five-part Fantastic Beasts saga.

I actually heard they are making 7. That was per Katherine Waterson. She said: "They're making 7 of these so I'm telling Eddy to keep fit so we can be in all of them."

I thought the first was really solid. I welcome more. Better than another movie about Liam Neeson saving the world.

true. Just seems they are milking the "fantastic Beasts" title a bit. even Tolkein only merited six movies, lol

You can't POSSIBLY be using the LOTR movies as ammunition. Yes, it was "only" six movies, but 3 of them were damn near 4 hours long! All told, the Peter Jackson saga of director's cuts is something like 22 hours long!

My first thought on hearing of this movie was *yawn*--and I loved Harry Potter. 7 movies? I'm already asleep.

In movies as in books, I usually only like following the main story line. It's become a problem in the Honorverse (the Honor Harrington space opera book series) for me. Rogue One is a major exception.

Love this trailer. A LOT of Harry Potter references/connections:

Very, very excited, as a HUGE Harry Potter guy.

Huge controversy around this one ATM.

Are you talking about the casting of Nagini? If so, I'd call it a nonsense controversy rather than the racism accusations that are floating around.

It isn't the casting, but the convoluted backstory with racist overtones. This isn't me throwing stones; the internet's blowing up about it.

Yeah, I know that the internet appears to be blowing up about it but I still think it's nonsense. And I don't agree that it's racist, just more SJW's at work IMO. Fortunately for me, the first movie bored me to tears so I won't have to deal with the noise.

Why is this considered racist or sexist?
I guess because it’s an Asian who will soon be subservient to a white man. Don’t bother mentioning all the other white people, including women, who end up also subservient to him.

Correct. Voldemort doesn’t care who you are as long as you serve him.

I guess it was ok that the villain in this movie is a white male.

JK tried explaining it, that Nagini itself is based on some sort of mythical creature from Asia. Now, this may be a new background for the snake based on this movie, but it's a pretty solid background.

Yup - and she says she wrote that part in her notes 20 years ago

Naga (IAST: nāga; Devanāgarī: नाग) or Nagi (f. of nāga; IAST: nāgī; Devanāgarī: नागी)[1] is a Sanskrit word which refers to a "serpent" or "snake", especially the King cobra. The term Naga in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism denotes divine, semi-divine deities, or a semi-divine race of half-human half-serpent beings that resides in the heavenly Patala (netherworld) and can occasionally take human form. They are principally depicted in three forms: wholly humans with snakes on the heads and necks; common serpents or as half-human half-snake beings.[2] A female nāga is a "nāgin" or "nāgini". Nagaraja is seen as the king of nāgas and nāginis.[3]

I have heard about that but come on. That’s no controversy. That’s PC run amock.
Agree with Chap this seems silly. No matter who they cast they would be attacked at this point. Because it’s a POC they are mad that a white villain is lord over her, if they cast a white woman they’d be mad that they anglicized the role. Can’t win.

Not to mention a woman subservient to a man.
