I'm older so I have a lot of memories.
I'll go with
1. Rockford.
2. Magnum P I
3. 77 Sunset Strip.
4. Mannix.
5. Richard Diamond Private Detective.

1. Rockford Files
2. Magnum PI
3. Simon and Simon
4. Knight Rider
5. Mike Hammer
6. Jake and the Fat Man
7. Remington Steele

Honorable Mention (As they're not exactly P.I. shows)

McMillan and Wife
Quincy M.E. (not a P.I. but he did more investigating than any coroner in the history of the profession lol, like that ever happens in the real world. But a fun show)

Rockford is on all lists except 1.

Every time I catch that show, it makes me pine for the days when an ex-con could afford to live in a travel trailer on the beach, and gain almost unlimited access to any building or business with nothing more than a business card machine.

"You need a hammer Rockfish!"

lol

I've never watched it, but I've heard great things about "Monk." Surprised it's not mentioned in this thread.
