Hey guys,

I'm in town on business and need a recommendation for a good bar to hang out at tonight. I'm on foot (or taxi), staying at the Extended Stay Deluxe on 2nd ave & Osborn.

Any recommendations? Sports bars preferred, of course. :)

Thanks,

Mike

First of all, I wouldn't come out of your hotel in that area. :)

Seriously, 2nd Ave. & Osborn -- the George and Dragon is pretty close. Good place. About 1.5 blocks north after hitting Central.

The other place I would recommend around there is the "Hi-liter". Great girls, lots of TVs for sports. On 12th street and Highland. Maybe a mile or so away, but you'll enjoy it.

If you can take a taxi, it's not a very far ride to Jackson's on 3rd or Alice Cooperstown, etc. down by the U.S. Airways Arena/Chase Field. Both are pretty good, although may be dead on a non-game day.

Check out Cooperstown (owned by Alice Cooper) and Majerle's (owned by Dan Majerle (former Phoenix Sun). Also Jackson's on 3rd. and the club, whose name escapes me now, right on the corner near Chase Field (home of the Diamondbacks).

Yeah, been to both of those places before (I used to live here). I was just hoping to find somewhere within walking distance of the hotel. I'm thinking a taxi ride may be a better idea. :)

OK, I think George & Dragon will be the first stop. I may hit the Hi-Liter later, or one of the Irish pubs mentioned. If anyone else wants to hang out and commiserate over the Cards, I'll be down there around 5:00. I'll be the Irish-looking fat guy w/ a goatee wearing jeans & a tan polo shirt. First round is on me.

Rosie McCaffreys is a great place also and kind of within walking distance of the Hi-Liter.

Add in George & Dragon and you can't go wrong. Especially, Hi-Liter quality entertainment there. :D

Since you're on the north side of the mall, you're in a bit of a no man's land there. Most everything in the area caters primarily to the daytime crowd. About a quarter mile to the north on the other side of Central is Woody's Macayo, and they have a rather festive bar area, though I don't know how good the sports offerings are. For the good stuff, take the cab (or the bus) down Central to the downtown area.

Thanks to those that suggested the George & Dragon. Had lots of fun there. What a great pub! They also had a Texas Holdem tourney last night at 8:00 that I played in for fun. Drank plenty of Boddingtons & Guinness, too.

Thanks again.
