Evan Hansen of Prairie Central showed a little pop and proved to be a tough out for the Hawks as baseball season got underway. He is recognized for his efforts by being the top vote-getter for the Pontiac Daily Leader Athlete of the Week for March 17-22.

Hansen had four hits, including a homer and double, drove in three runs and scored twice as Prairie Central opened its baseball season with a 1-3 week.

Hansen garnered 9,667 votes, which was 46.93 percent of the overall total on the Athlete of the Week poll this week. Mckenna Woodcock of Dwight collected 8,770 votes, which was 43.06 percent for second place. Prairie Central’s Dixie Hogan tallied 1,287 votes (6.25 percent) to take third place. Placing fourth went to Tony Schahrer of Prairie Central who garnered 370 votes (1.8 percent). There were 20,598 votes cast.

Also nominated were Kyah Creek of Prairie Central, Dwight’s Luke Gallet, and Elena Krause and Cayden Masching of Pontiac.

You can email Erich Murphy at emurphy@gannett.com by 9 a.m. each Monday to submit a potential nominee who may be placed on the ballot. Please include statistics for that athlete for the week.
