Finding Nemo 2

Andrew Stanton to Direct Pixar's 'Finding Nemo' Sequel

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/andrew-stanton-pixar-finding-nemo-sequel-350267

Andrew Stanton is heading back to animation, signing on to direct a sequel to Pixar’s Finding Nemo, the 2003 modern classic he co-directed.

Victoria Strouse, who wrote the 2008 Black list script The Apostles of Infinite Love, is writing the script and Lindsey Collins is producing. A 2016 release date is being eyed.

The move could be perceived as a return to a safer ground after the disastrous results of John Carter, Stanton's big live-action debut. The movie’s performance forced Disney to take a $200 million write-down. And while the filmmaker may still harbor live-action dreams, Nemo 2 will effectively take up all most of his time for the next four years or so.

The move is also a safe one by Pixar, the company that once was praised for cranking out original film after original film, but now seems to trying to balance commercial prospects with unique creations.

Nemo is my favorite Pixar film, but this news doesn't make me happy.

for years, one could count on Pixar to deliver something fresh every summer. something original. but between Cars 2, Monsters 2, Toy Story 4 and Nemo 2, I guess it was just a matter of time before they became like every other studio and started just churning out guaranteed money-makers with sequels.

Card 2 was just bad.

I think you can have both sequels and originals. It's not like Sequels will be the only thing Pixar does.

Besides at the end of the day all of these films are all about the kids. My kids are absolutely excited there is another one coming out. Just as they were really excited about Monsters University.

There is room for both.

The insanity of this is that their original creations were tremendous commercial success. I guess after they ran out of ideas that were scribbled down on the cocktail napkin after their original meeting (resulting in Toy Story, Nemo, Monsters Inc, Cars and Wall-E), they just threw up their hands and said, "well, we can probably just make sequels til we die."

What a shame.

I don't think that is the case one bit. They originally had more sequels pegged but backed off that after Monsters Inc and now Nemo.

I bet they have plenty of original ideas in the pipeline. After all nobody had seen Brave coming.

cheese, as independent as Pixar seems to be, it's still Disney. What did you think was going to happen? They have to answer to the Mouse. And the Mouse wants his ... um ... cheese. ;)

Ugh. Nemo sucked. I hope Dory got caught and made into sushi and doesn't appear in Nemo 2. Dory was easily one of the most annoying characters in any movie I have even seen. Marlin was a whiny wimp and Nemo was a whiny brat.
