Congrats to Amos Jones, you just ended our season. As BA would/should say, "Amos Jones is the worst ST coach in the NFL, and it's not even close".

Anybody up for getting a posse together to picket outside Hardy Drive tomorrow? I'm sure there are some ASU boys among us, you guys can bring the pitchforks. We'd probably get some TV coverage. Who's in??

It really is astounding how this is not viewed as a major story in the valley.
There have been a ton of reasons this team sucks this year, but the overwhelming #1 consistent reason has been the atrocious res of the special teams in all facets. I mean, two years ago we won 11 games with a mash unit. This year the online has been crushed but almost everyone else has been healthy (smokey gimpy and badger's injuries too).

Who is coaching special teams tomorrow if you fire Jones tonight? A quality control coach responsible for editing videotape?

I am not saying Jones doesn't need to be gone.. it is just not an easy thing to do during the season

That's four games not won due to special teams -- with a fifth (edit: AND a sixth) game where a bad ST play put the team in a terrible hole.

Also overlooked in this game --

After the tie, the Cards kicked off and Miami took over at its 25. The D holds, and MIA punts from their own 32. The Cards take over at their 25 -- a 43 yard net swing. On 4th -11 at their 24, the Cards punt and Miami takes over at the Cardinal 47-- a 23 yard net. A 23 yard net when you desperately need a good punt and good coverage. Good grief.

Blevins would be fine as interim.. but isn't he part of the problem of why our special teams suck?

Why would you compare an assisstant to a coordinator? Regardless, the change of staff is symbolic and more about accountability.

Ouchie: FWIW -- the ST situation is a big story in the Valley

It has been a frequent sports radio theme -- and, last week when Butler kicked a 20 something punt, the stadium erupted in boos.

In any other city Amos would be blasted all over the front page of the sports pages, maybe the front page of the paper.

Special teams has easily cost this team 4 games this year, that is a quarter of the season. That is unacceptable.

4 WINS!

5-7-1 turns into 9-3-1. .................that is disgusting.

If you are counting the Seahawks game as one of those, we would be 9-4 and leading the division and tied for the #2 seed. Even with all of the problems on our offensive line protecting Palmer and with Palmer turning the ball over as much as he has.

I don't see how Jones, our two kickers and the long snapper can look their teammates in the eye.

I have been trying to figure out what happen this season. I couldnt figure out how we went from blowing teams out last year with 13 wins to being just mediocre.

I figured that Palmer had a career year last year and was back to being a really good qb.
Floyd is having a horrible season.
The injuries to the OL but that didnt sit well because they were healthy and better than last year to start the season.
The shake up in the secondary but figured the much improved DL would more than make up for that.
DJ is playing better than last year

Figuring all this in together COULD explain our record....but it just didnt feel right. Then it hit me yesterday. Our ST has been absolutely aweful this year. And not the whole ST. Its been the kickers. To be sure there have been lapses in judgement and poor play but nothing I can say is god aweful.....but the kicking has been killing us. Especially punts. Its a huge factor in games. You can give a team an extra 20 yards to work with.

I wont say that the coach has to go. I just dont know enough and cant believe that they suddenly got horrible at coaching kickers. And kickers are such a head game anyway it seems to me that you can scrap them both and move on easily enough.
