The story remained the same for the Coachella Valley Firebirds on Friday night in Calgary. The team scored just one goal for the fifth consecutive game, and the Firebirds lost for the fifth consecutive time.
Mitchell Stephens' goal with less than two minutes left in the game was the only tally for the Firebirds in a 3-1 loss to the Calgary Wranglers in Canada. While Stephens' goal cut the Wranglers' lead to 2-1, Calgary scored an empty-net goal just 32 seconds later to ice the Firebirds' fifth straight loss, the longest losing streak in the franchise's three-year history.
The loss dropped Coachella Valley into a tie for third in the Pacific Division of the American Hockey League with a 32-22-2-5 record and 71 points. Abbotsford and Calgary are also at 71 points, behind first-place Colorado (78 points) and Ontario (74.).

Center Damien Giroux and defenseman Jake McLaughlin were called up to the Firebirds on Friday. Neither was with the Firebirds for Friday's game in Calgary.
