Star DT Omar Hunter has "unofficially" decommited from Notre Dame, according to blueandgold.com, who cited his high school coach as saying that Omar wanted to take another look at USC and Florida.

The Irish had been holding together a class thought to be ranked #1 to #3 by many raters until this first decommitt.

In my opinion, more will follow Hunter's lead. Here we go again. Last year, Weis got smacked by a bunch of late decommits, three to Illinois alone, on letter-of-intent day.

The Illini ones really hurt because they came as a complete shock, with no early signs. Lots of players waffle. As a coach, if you know about it, you can reopen channels to your secondary choices.

Mike Stoops, at UA, got blind-sided that way too last year.

So Weis now tells all his committs if he hears they are waffling, then Notre Dame will reopen recruiting to that spot. Personally, I think that's wise. And I'm not sure but I think I read Stoops is taking the same stance.

Notre Dame is not going to be able to cobble together many top ten classes until Weis manages to win big with some astute choices of lesser-coveted recruits.

There are just too many other nice places and more recently successful programs to attract recruits.

Notre Dame is never again going to be a good fit for a good majority of the top high school players.

Stay tuned, Irish haters, you may have more to gloat about soon.
