Fisher Hosts Gala and Football Camp
Over the weekend, Cardinals linebacker Levar Fisher returned to his hometown of Beaufort, North Carolina to host a two-day fund-raising event to benefit Fisher of Men, a foundation he began in 2002.
The Fisher of Men 2nd annual fundraising gala was held on Friday, June 25 at the Sheraton in Atlantic Beach. Fisher, along with his Cardinals teammates Marcel Shipp, Kenny King, Coby Rhinehart, Quentin Harris, Indianapolis Colts David Thornton, and several former teammates from NC State enjoyed dinner, dancing, games, and a live silent auction.
“We were expecting to sell at least 100 tickets, but we exceeded our numbers because over 250 people showed up for the event,” said Fisher. “It was something I wanted to do for my hometown and we were able to raise a lot of money, which we’ll put to great use, and I’m just really pleased with the turnout.”
The funds will go towards supporting the foundation’s mission of fighting homelessness in Carteret County and the operation of a transitional housing unit in Morehead City. The house currently accommodates 6 homeless women and their children and the goal is to eventually provide an emergency shelter which can house 30 to 50 men, women and children.
The weekend continued with the 4th Annual Levar Fisher Football Camp held at East Carteret High School on Saturday morning.
