Many reports about Fitzgerald are coming out of boston this week regarding the Pats. It has been reported by Tom Curran that the Pats called about trading for Fitz last offseason. One new tidbit is there is a source that has said it is being bounced around that a trade of Fitz for Gronk might be offered.

So my question is would you trade Fitz for Gronk? All the local Boston media has said they would do that trade in a heartbeat.

Man I dunno, Gronk is younger and is an extreme threat, but he is often injured. I don't think I would do it.

I don't mind shopping Fitz, but I wouldn't do it for Gronk. The dude is injured every year it seems like.

(Edit: if I seem inconsistent here about trading Fitz it's because I am)

agreed. Gronk is damaged goods at this point, IMO.

Not even close. Fitz will come at a reduced rate after THIS contract is up.

Gronk is a shell of what he was.

Just say NO to NE! They had their run!

This contract is up? May want to check his contract...he's still UC for 5 more years! Not only that, he averages a 17 million dollar hit over the next 5 years, a number reserved for the NFL's best. Larry ain't even close anymore. He's good, but way overpaid for what he brings to the table at this point.

For the right deal, you get rid of him, he's just not worth an 17 mil+ cap hit. He may not even be the best receiver on the team next year!

man, that contract is really a killer.

dude's been an incredible player for us, but the last two seasons, he definitely hasn't looked the same and even if he did, he wouldn't be worth 17 mil per season!

Yep, love Fitz as a leader, but he's no longer a top 5 WR. (Likely not even top 10) To average a 17 mil cap hit will severely restrict our ability to pay our young guys/FA's. Much as I like him, for the right package, I'd definitely look at moving Larry.

Fitz isn't worth the 17 mill but he's still more important to the Cards than other teams. He's not going to be replaced easily. I'm not comfortable thinking that Floyd can assume the #1 WR role. Much of his success is that the other team is concentrating on stopping Fitz. Look what happened to Indy when Wayne went on the IR.

Cards get Fitz to re-structure and everything is fine.

And I wouldn't touch Gronk and 2nd rounder for Fitz.

Fitz isn't going to get the full value of his contract, whether he stays with the Cardinals or goes to another team. Eventually, he's going to have to take a pay cut, but for now, his best bet is to restructure.

But at the same time, he has leverage, and if he wants, he can suffocate the Cards's offseason. Of course, that's not in his DNA.

I don't see a trade, and the motive for BA and Keim is to keep him in Cardinal red. Also, reports are he's willing to restructure, which can save up to $8mil this year. Done deal after that.

Moreover, as much as I love Gronk (Bear Down), he's damaged goods. I don't trust him to start or end a season without an injury. Trading him for Fitz, even with getting an additional pick, is a huge gamble. Also, I don't see the incentive for Brady to get rid of one of his best weapons to get another weapon. They're better off drafting a wideout in the first round or signing a free agent, like Boldin or Maclin.

Agree with all of this...

Gronk - if he actually returns to the field, is far more valuable to Brady than Fitz would be. Gronk sets up mismatches all day long and nobody is better at exploiting those mismatches than Brady.
Additionally, while we can sit here all day long and play the what-if games with respect to Fitz and his contract, every indication from both camps is that the collective sentiment heavily leans toward a restructured deal with Fitz closing out his career in Cardinal Red.
Anything can happen of course... however, I would be extremely surprised if Fitz isn't with the team next season under a restructured deal...

BTW - For those lambasting Fitz on his production:

This season, he had the 2nd fewest targets in his career, and the game plan never involved him running many deep routes. All of the deep throws went to the speed guys and Floyd. Plus, he played about half the season with a hamstring issue.

...yet, he still caught 10 TDs.

Bottom line: while he isn't a spring chicken anymore, he's still a viable red zone threat and has to be accounted for at all times on the field. I would bet dollars to donuts that Floyd's production isn't what it is without Fitz on the field.

Fitz was just on WEEI here in Boston and showed bellicheck huge man love and even sticking up for him. I got the take away that he would not mind playing there with Brady. Also the pats have told people they are willing to take his contract with a restructured deal not including a pay cut. I've heard more about Fitz here in NE more than I have ever heard about him the past 10 years where there's smoke there's fire.
