Well let's see; you have a coach who has proven he will play the best player regardless of salary and/or draft rankings. You have a super bowl MVP who has a command of his offense as well as a deft ability to put the ball where it needs to be; and you have a great qb in waiting who will get his chance when the time is right.

And you also have the fact that if the coach didn't pick Warner over Leinhart last year, our city would NEVER have had the fun and excitement that we all experienced last year. Don't you think coach Whiz would like to see if that can happen again this season before promoting our QB of the future? I love Leinhart, but Warner STILL gives us the most promise as our starting QB this year....

TP

Not trying to antagonize here (really Chris, I'm not...), but in this post you mentioned that we have a "great qb in the waiting" but that if Warner didn't play last season, "our city would NEVER have had the fun and excitement we all experienced"...

If Leinart is "great", why wouldn't have last season been fun and exciting??

As far as the Steeler method goes, I don't think their track record with QB's indicates they know what they're doing at that position. From 1983 until Big Ben was drafted that was a distinct weakness for the Steelers year in and year out. If anything, the Steeler method is to pay a ton of money to a QB if they ever get one that proves his worth. Seems on par in that regard.

All right can I just stop this right now? Can we all safely say that Warner - he of being 38, 3 Super Bowl appearances, 2 MVPs and leading a #1 offense time and time again - is more accomplished and the better bet to win RIGHT NOW. No one - and not even Matts mom - would say that Matt would come in put together the type of year KW did. And you shouldn't expect that.

I think Matt is going to be good. Kurt Warner good? Maybe not numbers wise. But I KNOW he knows how to lead winning teams. He did it in college better then anyone not name Tim Tebow.

The infrastructure has been put in place now that when he does get that chace - he has NO reason not to succeed.

That doesn't mean he should be starting over Kurt this year.

Darn, we could have saved $11.5 million in cap space to re do contracts for Wilson, Dansby, and Boldin by going with the next Steve Young.

Also a younger less expensive player.

:D

this would of been the intelligent thing to do with the football team. Instead we put all our eggs in the basket of an aging qb.

Funny you mention that because accorind to Brian St Pierre, he will have an opportunity to unseed Leinart as the #2 QB this summer.

I dont really think it will happen, but St Pierre stayed in AZ specifically because of that promise.....whats that say?

And seriously, what happens if he does unseat Leinart. What then? wow. Talk about a board eruption..:D

Board eruption would be an understatement.:D I do think though that if Whis thinks BSP is better than ML and is more to his liking and what he wants in a QB then he really would bump him up to 2nd string. Maybe I'm naive I dunno.
Of course there are no guarantees for any or for very few players in the NFL. I don't think 2nd string is gonna be handed to ML on a silver platter. He is gonna have to earn it.
Maybe the coaching staff sees the potential in Leinart and they feel confident that they can see to it that he fulfills all of it and they know that ML truly does want to fulfill it?

Pretty strong stuff from Fitz. Much better then the obligatory "Yeah - He's awesome"
...

To the doubters - If fitz believes in him this much, shouldn't you?
I'm pretty confident that Leinart can carry this team after Kurt, especially if he has to run a Whiz's vision of a more balanced game and and not throw as much. I'm glad he is comfortable right now as a backup and learning from a great QB.
