Five reasons you must watch Serie A this weekend

Every Serie A match is available to watch LIVE with Home of Serie A on OneFootball to users in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Find out more here.

The Easter weekend sees Serie A clubs returning from European exploits and there is no shortage of subplots to enjoy across the country's top flight.

Here are five reasons to tune into the action.

A real relegation six-pointer

Empoli's bid to pull off back-to-back relegation escapes is hardly going to plan.

Briefly, it looked like Roberto D'Aversa's side might avoid the need to repeat last season's final-day heroics but have reverted to type this term with another nosedive.

Fresh from a defeat to Napoli, the Azzurri Empolesi face a similarly daunting task to arrest their 17-game winless streak in facing fellow strugglers Venezia on Sunday.

The teams cancelled each other out in January's meeting with a 1-1 draw but their contrasting fortunes since then offer Eusebio Di Francesco's side an upper hand.

I Leoni Alati sit above their hosts only on goal difference yet are coming off the back of a win over bottom side Monza and a run of just one defeat from their last seven.

If Lecce drop points against a mid-table Como, a win for either side would see them move out of the bottom three and offer a fighting chance in the battle for survival.

Gasperini's latest audition

Gian Piero Gasperini is officially Serie A's new managerial flavour of the month.

Already, the Atalanta head coach has been linked with several prestige positions since revealing that he will not renew his contract with the Europa League holders.

But while that announcement coincided with an outside shot at the title falling away, he remains hot in demand, reportedly including with La Dea's next opponents, Milan.

Things are pretty bleak for San Siro's red contingent with Sérgio Conceição under pressure after exiting the Champions League and falling 20 points off the pace.

For Atalanta, meanwhile, Gasperini still has his critics to silence after finally arresting a hat-trick of Serie A defeats by overcoming Bologna last weekend.

A win for his side against the Rossoneri would go some way to doing that while also offering a possible audition for his opposite number's role on Sunday evening.

Travel-sick Inter face title test

Inter confirmed themselves as the Champions League's dark horses after edging out Bayern Munich in Wednesday's pulsating quarter-final second-leg affair.

But their quest to defend the Scudetti threatens to be far from plain sailing with Napoli snapping at their heels despite being unable to temporarily leapfrog them.

A superior goal difference ensures Simone Inzaghi's men will remain top of the pile no matter the outcome of Sunday's trip to Bologna, even if their rivals win at Monza.

The Nerazzurri's less-than-stellar away record, however, makes their latest meeting with Vincenzo Italiano's side at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara a potential banana skin.

A solitary win from their last six games on the road, coupled with the Rossoblù holding them to a draw at San Siro in January, could make things tight at the top.

Lazio need to salvage season

Lazio's season is in danger of crashing and burning after their Europa League quarter-final exit to Bodø/Glimt that proved to be historic for all the wrong reasons.

The hosts overturned a two-goal deficit from the first leg for the only time in their history but fates still conspired against them with a penalty shootout exit.

Now, the Aquile must dust themselves down to avoid an underwhelming campaign with Monday's trip to a Genoa side that is increasingly comfortable in mid-table.

Patrick Vieira has fashioned a team which plays largely to its defensive strengths and remarkably conceded just 15 goals in 18 domestic outings under his tutelage.

With Roma only two points behind in the battle for a Conference League place, Marco Baroni needs his players to put their Euro heartache behind them and fast.

Sliding doors derby in Emilia-Romagna

Football history is littered with sliding doors moments and Serie A is no different.

When Parma parted company with Fabio Pecchia in February, both Igor Tudor and Cristian Chivu were the early favourites to succeed him before the latter was picked.

The Croatian may consider his previous misfortune a blessing in disguise as he prepares to venture to the Stadio Ennio Tardini with Juventus on Monday night.

Back in the day, Tudor and Chivu were among the Italian top flight's most formidable defenders and followed a similar path in management with their respective employers.

With Juve currently in the box seat for the final Champions League qualification spot, Tudor has additional motivation to show the Crociati what they missed.
