Just four days before announcing his top-five schools list, defensive lineman JaReylan McCoy has made a change. The talented prospect is adding the Texas Longhorns to his list. They will replace Texas A&M and now have a better chance of landing one of the best players in the 2026 class.
The Tupelo High School product made the announcement through social media on Sunday. The change came shortly after McCoy locked in a date for his official visit to Texas. He is set to visit Austin this summer on June 13, when he originally planned to go to College Station.
McCoy, a Mississippi native, is rated as a five-star prospect by ESPN. However, on On3 and 247Sports, he's rated as a four-star prospect. One thing that is certain is that McCoy is one of the best players in his class from Mississippi.
Over the last few months, McCoy's recruitment has been full of changes. He initially committed to LSU in January before decommitting a month later. However, the Tigers are still in the mix, along with Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss, and Texas. He has yet to set a decision date but could be nearing one as his official visits are set with all his top five schools.
For the Longhorns, adding a player like McCoy would be a huge boost to their championship aspirations. During the 2023 campaign, he recorded 11 sacks and 23 tackles for loss. His play is partly why he has drawn interest from some of the top programs in the country.
If Sarkisian and the Longhorns can land McCoy, one of the best recruiting classes in the country will move closer to the top five.
