Anybody see those? Utterly fabulous movies.

My father was a young Marine on the first underwater demolition team ever formed and his first action was to scout the waters off the beaches of Iwo Jima for submerged obstacles. After the mission, his squad was pulled out and sent to scout another island so he missed all the fighting and dying. Thank God.

Isn't it Letters from Iwo Jima?

Yes. But when you take as many %$#$@* pills at 8 pm as I do, it's a miracle anything I write makes any sense.

Letters from IWO Jima deserves an academy award nomination, IMO.

I recently watched Letters from Iwo Jima. What an incredible movie. I actually agree with Shane on this one.

This film was brilliant and much better than Flags of our Fathers. It won an Oscar for best achievement in sound editing, which was well deserved.

I thought Flags was incredibly mediocre and pretty dull, but Letters From Iwo Jima was the best movie I saw all year in 2006. Just an absolutely fascinating look at the Japanese perspective of that battle.

I actually agree what a great movie. Its amazing that the two best movies I saw all year were subtitled. (apocolypto)

I wasn't impressed with Flags of our Fathers much either.

My Dad drove a landing craft in several of the campaigns of the South Pacific Theater during WWII. It's interesting to think that perhaps your father had a hand in seeing to it that he returned safely.

Hopefully your father is still with us, so that you could pass on our thanks.
