I know there are some very savvy techies here, so:

I am looking at a 46" inch LED Samsung. Question: how much does it really matter if I stay with a 120Hz versus stepping up to a 240Hz? I am really not even sure what the heck that means! :D

Also, if anyone has any experience with Samsung, feel free to comment!

Thanks guys!

I have had 3 Samsungs. 1 LCD, and 2 plasma. Loved the plasma, but the LCD was a lemon. Overall, I am happy with Samsung.

Pioneer is the best, because their blacks are more true than other brands. But be prepared to pay for it.

Thanks guys... looking at Plasma's now as the newer models seem very competitive (performance wise) with LCD/LED... and the pricing is incredibly reasonable. Looking at Samsung and Panasonic for the plasma as they seem to be rated most consistently at the top of the lists.
A 51" Samsung / 1080p / 120Hz / HDTV / 3D with a Blu Ray Player is less than $900! That's nuts!!

I got the 46" Samsung last year - 120hz (refresh rate). Didn't notice much diff between the 60hz to the 120hz (but there might be more from 120hz to 240hz?)

I did a lot of research before we decided on the Samsung - love it, great TV!

IMHO...SONY AND SAMSUNG #1....not making fun of shane....I worked at Best Buy...for 5+yrs...You get what you pay for.....http://www.consumeraffairs.com/home_electronics/vizio.html

Have 3 vizios in the house all 1080p one plasma and two lcd's all are fantastic TV's with beautiful pictures. Have friends who have them which is why I started buying them. None of us have had any issues. Comparatively next to the big boys IE Sony etc... They are every bit as good IMO. I do also own a 55" inch Sharp Aquos LCD which I absolutely love. but for the price and features I'll still take teh Vizio.

Considering that best buy to my knowledge has never sold vizio your knowledge of Them is probably pretty limited. Here is the consumer affairs report for the Sonys you love sooo much:

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/home_electronics/sony_tv.html

The list is huge and just as varied az Vizio. Electronics are what they are.. People are gonna have issues it is inevitable.

Owned 2 vizio's..... 1 samsung...... 2 sony's .......

Samsung wins IMO.

Vizio is nice for the guest rooms.... Sony for the basement... Samsung is the showpiece.

Picture quality? Vizio is a distant 2nd to the Samsung and Sony is behind both.

My question is, why LED???

Plasma is a better picture. Unless you plan on using a computer w/ it extensively, plasma is the way to go.

Broadcast HD is 1080i and 720p, i believe, and you won't really notice a diff though.

Like others, i've got a Samsung and love it.. phenomenal picture.

If you don't need to have all the latest whizbangs, than you can find some great deals on plasmas.

The room that it will be put in is a pretty bright room. I was told that Plasma's suffer from glare, and LED's don't at all...

I just bought the Samsung Model 7000 55", 240 hz, smart tv, internal wi fi, web browser, QWERTY remote, LCD. Just got it up and running. Really happy, sweet picture... course it's only been on about 2 hrs. I bought the 3 year warranty too just because I'm paranoid.

I'm so completely un tech savvy, can't believe I got Directv, wifi internet, DVD, home theatre sound... all of it up and running by my own bad self in an hour and my little brother didn't have to come do it for me this time. :)

My old junker didn't have hdmi so I got rid of about half of all the cables, wireless adapter too... nice.

My old Panasonic plasma had the glare. The new one has an antiglare screen. The main issues with my old plasma were: glare, heat, very heavy and burn-in. The new plasmas have addressed all four of these issues. I could not be happier with my new plasma. I like the the deeper, richer colors of the plasma. My friend likes his LED LCD because of the brightness of the picture. To me it looks too cartoonish. I think it is just a matter of personal tastes and what looks good to you. P.S. The refresh rate on the plasmas is much higher to I cannot tell the difference myself.

Aside from the fact that your posts bring the added bonus of your avatar.... that's good info! Thanks! Can I ask what Panasonic model you now have?

The main thing the LED is used for is essentially a backlight, they really sort of oversell what the LED really is for.

It's like if you have a digital thermostat that has a backlight button that makes it easier to see. Or the GPS in your car has a backlight, it helps it be easier to see so it helps with things like glare.

I do think that consumers are starting to figure this out used to be adding LED to the title of a TV added several hundred bucks to the price even at the low end, that's starting to change. I think people have figured out the LED is just a small part of it.

I still don't have a flat screen the deals now are so good it's insane but I just need other things right now more than I need one. But if I did, I probably wouldn't be overly concerned with LED.

The other thing about LED is it makes the screen incredibly thin.

The new Samsung LED-LCD are 1.2 inches thick.

Sure 82. I bought it in February 2011. It is the Panasonic TC-P50GT25. It is a 1080P, real 3D and has a fantastic picture. I watched the Masters in 3D this year. Amazing. You know how green it is there. When they showed the greens with the azaleas, it looked so cool in 3D.

I mainly bought the 3D because I show Disney and other movies to my grandchildren so my son and daughter in law can have date nights. The kids love it.

Wow! That had to be VERY cool to watch The Masters in 3D!! I really think that by the end of January, I will have made up my mind and frankly, I think you've convinced me to go the Plasma route... The pricing is just too damn good to ignore and if the glare & burn-in issues have been solved, there really is no reason to look at the LED's anymore... Thanks dude!!

Here is a cool one: http://www.costco.com/Browse/Produc..._Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&topnav=

I did research for over a year before I bought my first Panasonic plasma. AVSforum.com highly recommended it. After owning one for 5 years, I bought a second one and would not buy anything else. I am very happy with both TVs.
