ATLANTA (FOX 5) -- What if you found out an American Idol contestant was lip-synching? What if the Bachelor was really married? How real is reality TV? The FOX 5 I-Team answers that question with one of America's favorite reality shows: Flip This House. Senior I-Team reporter Dale Russell found one Atlanta developer on the show, Sam Leccima, wasn't telling the truth about his renovations. Click video for more information. I never liked that guy. I am okay with the Montelongos, but I prefer Richard/Trademark from S1. I think he has a new show on TLC but I haven't seen it yet.

That new show is called The Real Estate Pros and airs Saturday nights :thumbdown

Reminds me of a few years ago when Bob Vila crew got sued by someone who bought a home that his team renovated on his show. He said the same thing essentially: "It's only a TV show, we only show people how to do it. There's no guarantee to our work."

At first I figured that Leccima was dup'ing everyone, including A&E. But it's obvious that, at least, A&E's production company involved was in on it too!

What a sham!

This is why I don't watch 99.9% of reality programming...it isn't real!

Don't care for it much either, I watch Flip this House but it's not my favorite. I much prefer Property Ladder but there haven't been too many new ones lately.

To me home improvement shows are "reality" TV; I never really expected that it was either real or in a lot of cases possible. In fact most reality TV isn't very real.

So are they now saying ALL the shows were fake or just the 5 or so that featured that one guy?

I read something over the weekend that said it was about 5 shows that were faked, they went so far as to claim sales and put up sale signs on property that had never actually sold.

I have to admit I always wondered how they did such quick flips when they did major renovations that would require permits? I did see one show where the issue of permits came up but I can't remember if it was FTH or another similar show, the guy did a ton of stuff and when the inspector came out the guy thought he was only looking at one change and was stunned when the inspector started nailing him. He literally said "how am I supposed to know what's code in plumbing and electrical I don't do that for a living?" it was quite funny.

But I always wondered on those quick flips because permits can be such a pain.

Did you ever see the one with the school teacher in I think the bay area, he was going to flip this shack and then when they dug into it he found out he had to completely tear it down and he ran out of money? It showed him bunking in someone elses apartment at the end and was one of the memorable complete failures.

I picture myself as that guy if I ever tried it.

It is all in the editing. If you pay attention to what people are wearing and what is going on in the background you can see that they edit heavily to make things seem more dramatic. Plus, working in construction I often get a good laugh at what they are doing on TV.

Edit: Bob Villa is a no talent hack and someday he WILL get his.

I would never buy a Montelongo house. Armando does all his renovations with the cheapest materials possible.

I don't know how realistic the series is, but it is entertaining.
