NASHVILLE, Tenn ― No one said getting through the SEC Tournament was going to be easy.
No. 4 Florida basketball faces another high-stress game, perhaps for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, when it faces No. 8 Alabama on Saturday afternoon in the SEC Tournament finals.
The second-seed Florida Gators (28-4) advanced with a 95-81 win over seventh-seed Missouri on Friday night in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals, overcoming 16 turnovers by shooting a blistering 61.8% from the floor. Point guard Walter Clayton Jr. led four scorers in double figures with 18 points.
"Proud of this win, playing in the quarters of the SEC Championship," Florida basketball coach Todd Golden said. "Felt like a Sweet 16 game tonight. Two teams that could do a really good job in March Madness next week.
Third-seed Alabama (25-7) knocked off Kentucky 99-70 late Friday night to advance to the semifinals. Florida won at Alabama 99-95 on March 5, but may need another win against the Crimson Tide to secure its first NCAA Tournament No. 1 seed since 2014.
Florida is 73-79 all-time against Alabama but holds a winning record against the Tide (18-7) in SEC Tournament games. Last year, UF topped Alabama 102-88 in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals.
Florida 97, Alabama 89: Florida will flourish and play more under control in another up-tempo game. Look for UF to take advantage of its physicality inside as well to advance for the SEC Tournament finals for the second straight year.
