MCFADDEN TALKING WITH FOUR TEAMS
Posted by Mike Florio on March 6, 2009, 11:03 p.m.
A week into free agency, cornerback Bryant McFadden still doesn’t have a new home.

Per a league source, McFadden hopes to make a decision soon.

Four teams are in the running: the Steelers, Cardinals, Dolphins, and Eagles.

I would say we are in good company with the other three being some of the top Front Offices in football

I want this kid, but I know some of you don't. We will soon know

Why would we be amongst those teams?

Did we make an offer after all?

Is he going to give us another visit and allow us to make an offer??

It's been reported that the cardinals made an offer in the 3-4 million range. I heard the 4 million quoted on NFL radio. I don't know if it's true but that is what they said.

My guess is they are looking for someone in the $3 million to $4 million range in yearly average.

Is what Kent Somers said, nothing official though.

it will take 5 to sign him. he wanted to sign here in my opinion. made it his first trip, hesitated making other trips. the cards fo threw a low figure at him if one at all or he would have signed here, imo. he's one, along with wright that would really be a value pickup.

I hope it happens. Maybe he can help convince Haggans to re-sign, too.

However, I have to think the Dolphins have the upper hand. He would be the unquestioned starter there, and he has a lot of Florida roots.

i doubt he goes to the Eagles. I think it's us or the Fish. I'd bet on the Dolphins getting him.

I'm not sure how you come to that conclusion as we wouldn't be on the list without a competitive offer. An agent's job is to shop his client around to get the best deal possible so the first team a player visits doesn't necessarily mean anything - unless you're willing to pay above market price. If I'm an agent and the Cards offer $3.5 you better believe I'll look to jack up my client's price knowing that other teams may be willing to pay more....it's called a bidding war. Honestly, McFadden's not worth $5m - IMO.

We don't know enough to make a reasoned judgment.

For example, does McFadden have a family? If so, do they have deep roots in the northeast (i.e. in Penna)? How would they feel about being uprooted?

How much will geography play into this? (Arizona is the only team in play situated very far west of the Mississippi)

Are the Eagle set at both CB's? If so, would McFadden be happy becoming Lito Sheppard II? If not, wouldn't his be a great fit for him as one of the two CB starters for a Jim Johnson defense?

Personal relationships - We know there's a Pittsburgh connection in AZ (and, duh, in Pittsburgh). But what about Miami and Philly. Is he close to anyone there?

And then (oh yeah, almost forgot); there's the money.

When reading PFT if he doesnt give an actual sources name dont believe a word of it. When he says "sources say" his info is crap becuse 9 times out of 10 his sources is completely made up to push his agenda which is to make himself look smart for past comments or they are from the agent just using the guy to push their agenda. And in this case that agent is Drew so you can easily assume that two out of 4 of those teams arent even in he running, and Drew promised this guy 7-8 mill and is now getting desperate because 7-8 mill window is far gone.

A Pitt paper already said Pitt is out of the running. Unless Bryant wants to be a dime back in Philly he will not sign with Philly. Philly already has 2 good young starting CB's and already paid big money to their Nickel guy Hanson in an extension. Unless they plan to trade Sheldon Brown along with their multiple draft picks for something.:D

I love it when we bring up "family roots" and ties to a particular area. Fellas.... 4 million dollars!!!! I only see my family 8-9 months per year and we have moved to all kinds of good and bad places. And I only make 2% of that. I really believe that this argument is pretty silly. It is a career and a tremendous opportunity - take the 4 mil, play for 2-3 years and move to wherever you want.

he went to college at FSU so i'm assuming he's from Florida.Who knows, maybe he's like Travis Henry and has "family roots" all over the country.

Not good... Both of our FSU guys are very unhappy. Find it hard to believe Boldin and Dockett gave the Cards a good word.

I don't think he goes to the Eagles, I have a hard time believing he wants to just go back to the Steelers...

It depends how he feels about his place... If he signs here, he will be 1A, and be competeing on a team capable of winning the SuperBowl, and maybe some people disagree, but I have a feeling the Dolphins are going to come back down to earth this year...

lets just hope he sees it this way....

He would certainly be a welcome addition to the team. We need to sure up the secondary in the worst way.
