Director: Robert Kenner
Screenwriter: Not Available
Genre: Documentary
MPAA Rating: PG (for some thematic material and disturbing images)

Plot Summary: In "Food, Inc.," filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the veil on our nation's food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that's been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government's regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA. Our nation's food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment. We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, insecticide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won't go bad, but we also have new strains of e coli--the harmful bacteria that causes illness for an estimated 73,000 Americans annually. We are riddled with widespread obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults.

Featuring interviews with such experts as Eric Schlosser ("Fast Food Nation"), Michael Pollan ("The Omnivore's Dilemma") along with forward thinking social entrepreneurs like Stonyfield Farms' Gary Hirschberg and Polyface Farms' Joe Salatin, "Food, Inc." reveals surprising -- and often shocking truths -- about what we eat, how it's produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here.

Food Inc.

I urge you all to find a way to see this film. Even if it doesnt get to a bunch of screens, it will end up on Netflix someday. Put it in your queues now so ou dont forget.

Everyone needs to start to understand our industrial food chain. Sometimes it takes being angry or even horrified for change to occur. I urge you to see this and then do your own research to back up the evidence...

Dont turn a blind eye. This countrys food supply could become the greatest issue of our times. Or our kids...

Food Inc.: A Participant Guide: How Industrial Food is Making Us Sicker, Fatter, and Poorer-And What You Can Do About It by Karl Weber

Food, Inc. is guaranteed to shake up our perceptions of what we eat. This powerful documentary deconstructing the corporate food industry in America was hailed by Entertainment Weekly as “more than a terrific movie—it’s an important movie.” Aided by expert commentators such as Michael Pollan and Eric Schlosser, the film poses questions such as: Where has my food come from, and who has processed it? What are the giant agribusinesses and what stake do they have in maintaining the status quo of food production and consumption? How can I feed my family healthy foods affordably?

Expanding on the film’s themes, the book Food, Inc. will answer those questions through a series of challenging essays by leading experts and thinkers. This book will encourage those inspired by the film to learn more about the issues, and act to change the world.

I had my wife put the order in last week. Should come in this week.

I've got to check out Fast Food Nation. I've heard many good things about.

I have the advanced paperback reader for The World is Fat: The Fads, Trends, Policies, and Products That Are Fattening the Human Race by Barry Popkin and this stuff can scare you straight when you read it.

Very slight, but it's only a byproduct of showing the living conditions and sanitation for these animal farms.

It's not a gross out PETA movie. They aren't against meat.

Recently watched it. Wow, I knew the animals were treated badly, but I didn't know it was that bad.

If you count trash compacting live pigs, then yes. My wife works for an organic product company, and fortunately we get a lot of food from them. There's some interesting stuff going into the food out there.

This was a Netflix watch instantly movie that I didn't want to watch but my wife made me. I'm glad I did. It was quite the eye opener. I liked it very much and it has changed how I shop for food.

That's what I thought too but it wasn't like that. It's more about how the Big Corperations are pretty much controlling how food is grown/raised.

I already look for the least controlled meats possible but then corp meat raises the price of good meat too. Lately I buy fresh and easy meat as they say it has no extra crap in it but really has nothing to do with their farms besides the diet.

everything is bad apparently, might have to start doin farmers markets only.

But even then, who is to say farmer guy isnt lying and uses tons of chemicals?

Good Lord. Just watched this last night with my wife. It's not the food that is as scary as the rampant fascism (not to discredit the level of scariness that is our food supply)....
